A corruption hearing has heard former NSW premier Gladys Berejiklian telling her secret MP boyfriend Daryl Maguire that a public servant's "head would be gone" but only after he "fixed" a grant proposal in his electorate.
Ms. Berjiklian today began her evidence at the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) as it investigates whether she breached public trust due to the undeclared relationship with the disgraced Wagga Wagga MP Mr. Maguire....
Ms. Berejiklian told the commission she couldn't remember whether she indicated support before or after their advice, but "top of mind" was the potential repercussions of the Orange by-election.
"Is that the reason why you indicated your support to NSW Treasury in relation to this item?" Counsel Assisting the inquiry Scott Robertson asked.
"Not necessarily, I can't remember," Ms. Berejiklian replied.
She could offer only "speculation" about her reasons for support, chiefly a perception that, politically speaking, the "bush was on fire" and regional electorates would feel the government has turned its back on them.
"This grant didn't stick out to me, my only recollection of it was in the context of the Orange by-election," she said.

The story is updating and may read differently in the hours ahead.
Its Friday Down Under and the testimony continues throughout the day.
Gladys Berejiklian
Wasn’t she the wife in “Last Man On Earth”?
Off with her head.
Simple really.
She’s the one down there who seemed to enjoy punishing and locking up her people in New South Wales. Would have made Stalin blush.
I wonder when the new state leader takes over from her
“Uh, I can’t recall”. Worked for Hillary.
And her boyfriend...

There's lots of that crap going around now...
Some pundits suggest simple pork-barrelling is so common-place it’s quite acceptable; all she did wrong was forget to declare her relationship to the politician who stood to gain by the government grant to a local gun-club. I think she’ll get by with a rap on the knuckles. After all, she kept New South Wales citizens safe...(from a bad dose of the common cold.)
As I was saying:
Gladys Berejiklian’s performance at Icac has been watched in horror by her federal Liberal colleagues...
Not her lack of curiosity while her lover mapped out his plans for corrupt profit from a land deal; nor the way this fastidious lister of potential conflicts failed to see – or declare – the conflict in front of her, in the wheeler-dealer man she loved; nor even the way she revealed – again – how routinely pork-barrelling is woven into political practice...
Nice truism...
As with all leftists, the horror was, she got caught.
