WASHINGTON — The White House on Friday formally blocked an attempt by former President Donald Trump to withhold documents from Congress related to the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol, setting up a legal showdown between the current and former presidents over executive privilege.
In a letter to the National Archives obtained by NBC News, White House Counsel Dana Remus rejected an attempt by Trump’s attorneys to withhold documents requested by the House Select Committee regarding the then-president’s activities on Jan. 6, writing that “President Biden has determined that an assertion of executive privilege is not in the best interests of the United States, and therefore is not justified as to any of the documents.”
“These are unique and extraordinary circumstances,” Remus added. “Congress is examining an assault on our Constitution and democratic institutions provoked and fanned by those sworn to protect them, and the conduct under investigation extends far beyond typical deliberations concerning the proper discharge of the President’s constitutional responsibilities. The constitutional protections of executive privilege should not be used to shield, from Congress or the public, information that reflects a clear and apparent effort to subvert the Constitution itself.”
White House press secretary Jen Psaki had telegraphed the move two weeks ago, saying President Joe Biden had already concluded that it would not be appropriate to assert executive privilege related to Jan. 6 requests. But White House officials added that they had not yet done so related to requests from the Select Committee, and would make any determinations on a case-by-case basis.

If Republicans successfully return to run the House in 2023, the first order of business is to continue the Jan6 Commission by adding the excluded witnesses AND by releasing ALL emails and texts going back to 2015 from, Pelosi, Schiff, Swalloswell, and ALL democrats who peddled the Russia hoax. We need to know who was rigging the game and which so-called journalists are official democrat mouthpieces.
I guess this opens the door to future POTUSs to release previous POTUS records. clinton, obumber and bush are probably not onboard with that.
Why does Trump want to withhold them? Seems they would reveal favorable things.
They just set a precedent that they may someday regret.

Shoulda, coulda, woulda, but you and I know deep down inside that the Republicans won't. Plenty of them voted to confirm Biden and unlimited voter fraud on January 6th. They're part of the problem, and can't be trusted.

You are correct. The democrats are so tone deaf they arent understanding NO ONE cares about this. The public has seen what the FBI and the leftist wing of the federal govt are all about. At the end of the day...on 1/6 ...one person was killed...a protester... by a police officer. The congress was never in danger, the election was not going to be overturned by riot....so all you have left are these desperate lies. The perception these fools are trying to manufacture is not resonating with regular folks at all.
Because they will release the records into the congressional records, and the world will know that Trump had nothing to do with an insurrection. He is forcing them to fight for these in court, and the court records will say the same.
Biden is also a first class chicken$hit.

I think these will be released and, at this weekend’s college and professional sport’s events, everyone will still hear louder and louder chants of “F Joe Biden.”
