Suzy Kies, the co-chair of the Indigenous peoples' commission of the Liberal Party, has resigned from the position after her claim to Indigenous ancestry was called into question.
Radio-Canada reported on Wednesday that it could not confirm Kies's claims to Indigenous ancestry. Kies told Radio-Canada in an interview that her father is of European descent and her mother is of Indigenous descent.
"My mother's family is from several communities," she told Radio-Canada in an interview in French. "On my grandfather's side, it's the Maliseet, from St. Mary's, New Brunswick, there are also the Laporte who are Innu. And my grandmother was Abenaki from Odanak."
In Radio-Canada's reporting, they consulted civil status records and the Abenaki Council of Odanak, who did not find Kies on the band list.

But of course, to be completely fair, Canada produced one of the most famous fake "natives" in history, namely the so-called "Grey Owl".
Oh, and lest I forget... The part of the article that made me facepalm was when they began to discuss the “healing book-burning” event... Oy vey!
Elizabeth Warren’s sister ???
Canada is lousy with ‘actors’ that come to the USA, make their vast fortunes, then b*tch about The Evils of Capitalism.
Good Old America. Everyone just LOVES to take what she has to offer, then kick her in the teeth. :(
Another case of cultural appropriation on the left like Elizabeth Warren...
And yet she will not be unpersoned...
There is no such thing as white privilege.
How dare you...
“Despite the hurtful questioning of my ancestry, identity and culture, I will continue my work to advance reconciliation and honour my family history,”
There does appear to be leftard privilege.
If there were, then at least one biracial celebrity would identify with their white half.
“How dare you...
“Despite the hurtful questioning of my ancestry, identity and culture, I will continue my work to advance reconciliation and honour my family history,”
You know how (at least if you were raised properly), most people tend to keep the most awful, uncharitable, and/or politically incorrect thoughts to yourself? It’s those rare times where, for whatever reason, your impulse control is impaired or briefly absent (by whatever means, including the classical ‘in vino veritas’), that particular thought would just pop right out. I just got quite the sideways eye from my roommate, when he overheard me mutter at the screen, whilst reading that article: “Oh, good Gawd! I’m surprised she didn’t start right up with the cry-on-cue with some weeping hysterics about all her “Unknown family buried in still unmarked graves behind residential schools...”
(eyeroll)
A racial test to hold office? Isn't that somehow . . . illiberal? I guess it depends on the race being questioned, which is a racial test in itself.
Global-scale madness on the head of a very small, Canadian pin.
Another fake “indigenous” person.
And fake liberal.
The left is not liberal.
She done got high-cheek boned.
She doesn’t apologize, and says she is stepping down only to help Dear Leader while she continues to honor her family and take offense to what others hurtfully said, seemingly without justification.
"Sister from another Mister". Fo shizzle.
