On Oct. 21, 1984, President Ronald Reagan was asked to give a summation as to why he should be re-elected at the end of his debate with Democratic challenger Walter Mondale. His meandering, unfocused response kicked off speculation that he was suffering from cognitive decline that only intensified in his second term. Here is part of it:
“Several years ago, I was given an assignment to write a letter. It was to go into a time capsule and would be read in 100 years when that time capsule was opened.
“I remember driving down the California coast one day. My mind was full of what I was going to put in that letter about the problems and the issues that confront us in our time and what we did about them. But I couldn’t completely neglect the beauty around me — the Pacific out there on one side of the highway, shining in the sunlight, the mountains of the coast range rising on the other side. And I found myself wondering what it would be like for someone — wondering if someone 100 years from now would be driving down that highway, and if they would see the same thing,” Reagan said. “And with that thought, I realized what a job I had with that letter. I would be writing a letter to people who know everything there is to know about us. We know nothing about them.”

They should. But they won’t. This is WAR Chris.
It sounded more like a deep thought that the writer was unable to understand, potentially due to his low intellect.
Concur
“Chris Reed: Media should treat confused Joe Biden like it treated confused Ronald Reagan”
Why should they - it’s THEIR MEDIA and THEY can say exactly what they want, since people on our side with money won’t step to the plate and take ownership of these outfits.
Imagine Joseph Stolen formulating that Philosophical Story and repeating it from memory at the end of a Debate.
Yep, the concern of Reagan’s mind withering away meant that he would only go on to Win 49 of 50 States, rather than all 50 States in the 1984 Electoral College.
I don’t find Reagan’s story of the letter and his California drive to be confused at all.
Reagan is STILL smarter than Biden.
I'll bet the writers' meetings are interesting.
That was a beautiful speech about how the things we do will either help or harm posterity. The media criticisms of Reagan were pure vitriol, just as we’ve seen with Trump. Most of what passes for commentators are too dumb to understand a higher plane of thought.
Sounds pretty insightful and thought out to me.
Apparently Chris failed Philosophy class. If he ever went.
He was working remote that day…..
What part of the media? SNL? The Tonight Show? The View?
What Reagan said makes sense to me. The media at the time saw it as rambling and a sign that he wasn’t all there though. It reads like he was reaching for something poetic to say and perhaps couldn’t connect it to the practical questions of politics, but it wasn’t bumbling and incoherent in the way that Biden so often is.
