Oregon, once a virus success story, struggles with surge

SALEM, Ore. — Oregon was once the poster child for limiting the spread of the coronavirus, after its Democratic governor imposed some of the nation’s strictest safety measures, including mask mandates indoors and outdoors, limits on gatherings and an order closing restaurants.

But now the state is being hammered by the super-transmissible Delta variant, and hospitals are getting stretched to the breaking point.

The intensive care unit at Salem Hospital in Oregon’s capital city is completely full, with 19 of the 30 beds occupied last week by COVID-19 patients, the youngest only 20 years old. It’s the same at a hospital in Roseburg, a former timber town in western Oregon. A COVID-19 patient died in its emergency room last week while waiting for an ICU bed to open, an event that was deeply distressing to the medical staff.

Oregon was the poster child for limiting spread of covid? More like poster child of Antifa, BLM, Riots, and looting.

Oregon, true to their stalinist way, will use the moment to recall the Bill of Rights from their people.

As flu season approaches, we will hear this again and again round and round we go....driving fear, driving speculation, driving gov mandates.

It’s lies and manipulation on steroids.

All they did was delay the inevitable. Just like Australia and New Zealand.

If they could only take all of the angst and panic and worry over this slightly amped up chest cold, and transfer it to something that is actually very dangerous and damaging, like smoking, then hundreds of thousands fewer people would die every single year. But people are unable to put risks in their proper perspective.

And people are still out there, all over the place, acting like human chimneys. And a lot of them will then go about lecturing me about masks. LOL!

Oregon has a hospital with a 20 year old suffering from the ChiCom Virus?

Is that person a heroin addict? They have some serious debilitating underlying illness.

The political situation in Oregon is definitely bad, but also take into consideration that it is also located in the midst of those tremendously hot wildfires and is experiencing a severe drought with unusually low humidity levels. All the particulate matter in the air is causing widespread lung irritation and inflammation. Delta then can become more potent than it is in other parts of the country.

Odd, according to the “2 weeks to stop the spread crowd” the first two weeks of lockdowns were for hospitals to ramp up their emergency bed capacity.

I guess they never got the memo. /sarc

Syntyr: "Well maybe they should wear a mask and get the vaxx!

Like that's worked out so well for all the people who have died from the mRNA "vaccines" when there is totally effective palliative care to keep them from getting critically ill like monoclonal antibodies treatments and broad-spectrum antiviral medications.

Only a fool signs up to be a GMO test monkey.

The worst air quality day in Oregon is better than some of the best days in Phoenix for particulates thanks for bone dry soil, winds, and the Leafblower Army.. I'm not buying it.

Oregon has always been an exception among the states with the least deaths per million. You could do your own Excel spreadsheet and confirm depending on the date that 2 out of 3, 9 out of 12, 8 out of 10 were states that voted for Trump in 2016 and I will speculate always had fewer restrictions than Oregon. Here is the letter I sent to Oregon papers as she reimposed the mask mandate.

Mask Mandate

The Center for Disease Control (CDC) came out with its latest policy about masks and our governor has mandated wearing them. But does it make any sense?

The best science the CDC can point to is a group of uncontrolled studies highlighting first such groups as 139 hairdresser clients, 382 sailors on the U.S.S. Roosevelt, 124 Beijing households, and 839 Thailand residents subject to contact tracing. All results come from observation followed by personal judgement, and none result from the mathematical disciplines used to evaluate complex environments. In the same article the CDC disparages the 2020 randomized controlled trial (RCT) in Denmark involving 4,862 participants, which found no benefit to wearing a mask to prevent infection.

The disciplines of a RCT divides participants into different groups on a randomized basis. Random assignment means that factors not specifically controlled can cancel each other out by appearing equally in both groups. One group receives the treatment (which in this case was the mask) and the other group does not. Researchers can isolate the one variable and are not able to introduce biases to produce a preferred outcome.

RCT’s are considered the highest standard for this type of research. Therefore, the most reasonable approach the CDC could take would be to use this study as one to which others would be evaluated. An especially valid approach, since the first four combined from their May scientific brief have less than half the participants of the Danish study.

We in Salem Oregon were doing well until the vaccine came about. I ran into many more vaccinated people who had Covid now here than before. I have been among many and because I had the original Covid, it has not affected me again.

I know for 100% fact that a woman who died of a stroke was counted as a COVID death. The local hospitals report every death as a “presumptive” covid death regardless of what the person dies from.

Family friend had to go the hospital for a procedure and they marked her as Covid. She demanded to see the test plus results and it was removed from her file. This was prolly in July/August of last year.

I volunteer at our small hospital here on the Oregon Coast. Came down with my annual summer cold (sneezing, sniffles, etc.). I opted to get tested because I work in the Infusion center with cancer patients and people whose are immuno-compromised. My test came back positive, so I count as a statistic. Was told to quarantine for 10 days from the onset of symptoms. No retest required. I was back working my regular duties last week. Still don’t believe it was Covid, just a regular sneezy sniffly summer cold.
