If you believe there was ever a scenario where as soon as the final American troops pulled out of AFG and the Taliban didn't break their agreement, then I have a bridge to sell you.

Parts of peace agreements in any war are usually broken by both sides for as long as I can remember. And I have lived a long time. Read up on the Israeli/Palestinian peace accords going back decades.
That is not the issue. The issue in Afghanistan was to carry out a withdrawal in a safe, orderly manner while leaving behind a government from all sides.
Its not about Dementia Joe and his Press Secretary both taking a “vacation “ as soon as the sh*t hit the fan, and hiding under their beds in fetal position after engineering an utter disaster.

Yet here we are almost eight months later and what, really, has been learned? Even the AZ audit isn’t finalized.

Trump is not blameless in his defeat. He botched his messaging on covid by his own admission, he botched the critical first debate letting Biden get him off message. He appeared weak and defensive, he did everything he could in that moment to sell the media’s caricature of him. Also, while he was right to oppose defunding the police, he did not have a good response to the conventional wisdom on blm. He was arrogant and blinded by his own hubris. He was his own best asset but also his own worst enemy.

Setting personality aside, did he deserve re-election? More than most presidents in my lifetime. Obviously he had better control over foreign policy, the border, economics and pandemic logistics than the current occupant.

Prices are up, the supply chain is desperate for truck drivers, we’ve incentivized not working and underscored it with the “child tax rebate” free money 250-300/month per child. In my line or work we are seeing a return of the irrational petulant attitude in the public that we saw in early covid. Joe was supposed to make these people feel safer and secure and now they’re back with the delta panic and who knows what we’ll see rolling into winter.

Rather, it seems that the president simply didn’t want to appear to be abiding by the terms of a deal negotiated by his predecessor.

And there you have it, TDS.

"The issue in Afghanistan was to carry out a withdrawal in a safe, orderly manner while leaving behind a government from all sides."

Yes, that's the issue. What I'm saying is that was never going to be possible. We had to either remain in AFG or accept that the current situation was inevitable. The Taliban would smile and nod while we pulled out, and then they would have taken over with an iron fist as soon as they could. Which is exactly what they did. I'm glad Democrats control our govt while this is happening because Republicans can capitalize on it. I feel you and I are in violent agreement on this.

It would not matter who was sitting in the White House at the time. Once we left, the Taliban would take brutal control back. It was always going to end this way

Keep telling yourself that.
Chuckle.
America has fought plenty of wars, and even in Vietnam, we did not leave thousands of Americans in the hands of victorious genocidal terrorists.
There was nothing written in stone about this disaster that is unfolding, until Dementia Joe took over.

...if Trump's deal came to fruition, this massacre would've just happened sooner than it's happening now.

Wut?

This hostage situation is what happens when Jao Bai-din closes the military base BEFORE the civilians depart.

As I have ALREADY SAID: the outcome of the Taliban taking over was never in doubt. What was in doubt was the plan for US withdrawal. Obviously Biden screwed that up. We do not know how Trump would’ve handled it because he is no longer President.

You're misreading what I said. The Taliban taking over the country as soon as we left was inevitable. That would have happened under Trump or Biden.

The difference is, as you've pointed out, Biden totally botched the evacuation plan (he didn't have a plan). Whereas Trump may have had a plan that worked beautifully, but we will never know.

They’re called extremely extreme reactionary extremists with little self control.

In their vp debate, Pence was very complimentary of Harris.

The VP slot the next time Trump runs is best given to DeSantis. If for some reason Trump does not run in 2024 then DeSantis can be the top of the ticket

Yes, I do, and I recall GWB in 2001 saying the American interventions in Iraq and Afghanistan would end in victory and not be “another Vietnam.”

DeSantis is needed to finish a second term in FL. Jim Jordan should get the nod; we never have to guess where he stands.

Like his earlier Hoosier VP, Dan Quayle, Mike has “quayled” himself out of consideration. They seem though to have a few great Hoosiers in Congress, foremost of whom is Jim Banks.

Our Constitution gives Pence no role in the certification process. Certification is done at the state level. In his role as President of the Senate, he is simply required to open the envelopes. It doesn’t even say he “may” open them - it says he “shall” open them.

“The Electors shall meet in their respective states, and vote by ballot for two persons, of whom one at least shall not be an inhabitant of the same state with themselves. And they shall make a list of all the persons voted for, and of the number of votes for each; which list they shall sign and certify, and transmit sealed to the seat of the government of the United States, directed to the President of the Senate. The President of the Senate shall, in the presence of the Senate and House of Representatives, open all the certificates, and the votes shall then be counted.”

"The likelihood there’s going to be the Taliban overrunning everything and owning the whole country [of Afghanistan] is highly unlikely,” President Biden confidently proclaimed in July. “There’s going to be no circumstance where you see people being lifted off the roof of an embassy.”

Damn, dude, that's not even the quote.

Who are these “others” who disagree? Because the plain text of the Constitution (which conservatives used to believe in) doesn’t give any wiggle room. It gives Pence, as Vice-president, only ONE responsibility, and it requires him to fulfill it - that’s to open the envelopes from the states and hand them over to the House and Senate. It’s right here - actually written in English, if you can imagine that...

Please tell me where in that it gives the President of the Senate the discretion to decide on his own that the votes aren’t valid and reject them.

Our Constitution gives Pence no role in the certification process.

When Pence ignored this desperate plea from the state legislature in Pennsylvania, he violated the law and the constitution.

State lawmakers ask Pence for more time to address election results

It’s not an opinion. It’s actually written down in case anyone wants to refer to it. Here it is:

“The Electors shall meet in their respective states, and vote by ballot for two persons, of whom one at least shall not be an inhabitant of the same state with themselves. And they shall make a list of all the persons voted for, and of the number of votes for each; which list they shall sign and certify, and transmit sealed to the seat of the government of the United States, directed to the President of the Senate. The President of the Senate shall, in the presence of the Senate and House of Representatives, open all the certificates, and the votes shall then be counted.”
