At least five people have been killed at Kabul airport as hundreds of people were trying to force their way onto planes out of Afghanistan, Reuters reported Monday, citing witnesses...
A US official told Reuters earlier on Monday that American troops, who had taken control of the airport, fired into the air to scatter the crowd.
It was not clear whether the deaths were caused by gunshots or a stampede, Reuters reported.
"The crowd was out of control," the official told Reuters by phone. "The firing was only done to defuse the chaos."...

Just as long as it doesn’t interfere with Biden’s vacation, everything in fine.
The next few days are going to be sketchy - We hold only the airport, where an estimated 30,000 people are to be evacuated, including embassy staff, and ultimately the 6000 American forces that went in to keep them protected until the planes leave.
It’s going to take weeks to get them out. Safe passage now depends on the Taliban, if they can be convinced to allow it. If they decide to do hit and run mortar attacks, or get their hands on some stinger missiles it’s going to be a blood bath.
How Joe Biden, even as stupid as he seems to be, could have let this scenario unfold as it has is incredible.
Whole thing resembles Saigon April 1975.

Biden’s inability to assess, pivot, and follow through on Trump’s iron hammer against the taliban cost a country and has exposed us as vulnerable in soooo many ways that weren’t even on the radar in ‘75. I just want to cry for the stupidity of it all (for about 5 minutes, then I’ll be cool)
This is just hits so close to my heart that I’m deeply sadden. This will take a long time for a lot of us to come to terms with.

The Taliban are not nice people. They are ruthless. There already has been a bloodbath. They don't play "footsie" with you. They play "no-headsie" with you.
If they have control and the upper hand, they will start rounding people up and execute them. Those 30,000 Afghans, the Americans embassy staff still trying to destroy records at the embassy and the 5 or 6,000 Marines there to help them all get out alive, are prime candidates for the Taliban to capture and kill.
Good luck with getting any humanitarian cooperation from them. They're not going to stand around while their hated enemy safely gets out of Dodge.

In roughly ten days, the ‘rescue’ will conclude. I don’t think the Taliban will stand by, and after you have one or two of the cargo planes hit with surface-to-air missiles...the whole plan will fall apart.
