Yelp monitoring reviews for backlash after allowing businesses to add vaccination requirements

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Businesses and restaurants across the country are doing whatever they can to stay open while keeping customers safe.

Kansas City’s Hamburger Mary’s, Woody’s KC, recordBar, and KC Improv have decided the best way to do that is to require customers and staff to be fully vaccinated.

Now businesses can include any requirement, along with additional safety measures underway, on Yelp listings. According to Yelp’s blog, it allows businesses to add information such as “proof of vaccination required” or “all staff fully vaccinated” on their individual pages.

But the options are also causing a lot of backlash against some businesses for their requirements, according to Yelp.

The company said it has already removed nearly 8,000 reviews in 2021 for violating its special COVID Content Guidelines. That includes what it calls “review bombing.” Review bombing happens when a large number of negative online reviews are made against one business. A large number of people, or a small number of people with multiple accounts, can be responsible for leaving the reviews.

Yelp said it is putting protective measures in place to protect businesses from any reviews that specifically criticize the COVID health and safety measures enforced by each business. The platform is also watching for any hateful or other harmful content left that target businesses over their protocols.

The consensus was, Thanks Yelp - this makes it easier to find which restaurants to AVOID.

Businesses and restaurants across the country are doing whatever they can to stay open while keeping customers safe.

And Yelp is doing whatever they can to help them "close" while keeping customers safe.

Thanks Yelp.

Exactly! I’ve seen a few businesses proudly announcing they do not allow masks and I wish more would join in. The biggest surprise of the past 18 months is how many sheeple roam the USA. When you lay down with a communist dog (even if it is your own brother) you wake up with fleas...and communism. I saw an article about CNN Cuomo being dragged down by Gov Cuomo, and you can give that a look at Newsbusters, ‘’Cuomo Prime Time’ Hemorrhages Female Viewers as Scandal Rages’. I love my family but I couldn’t defend one of them if they were a scumbag and murderer like Andrew is. No idea how C̶h̶r̶i̶s̶ Fredo sleeps either. What is good for the goose and all that. I can’t wait to hear the left scream about being excluded from places they want to go to because they are wearing a mini burqa or took the mystery shot.

The madder I make the communists the more I’ll keep doing it. Plus it is fun.

THAT is how to hurt the leftist businesses, boycott them! If it didn’t work the left wouldn’t always do it to us. Amazon is a great place to start. Pay a little more and starve Bezos of your money.

It's not a matter of paying a little more, it's a matter of convenience and time. Amazon is often more expensive, since most of their products have shipping costs built in to their prices. For example, the spark plug gap tools I just bought at the local auto store were $2.99 each. Cheapest one on Amazon was $6.88, and I definitely didn't spend a gallon and a half of fuel to get to the store. Amazon is useful for stuff you just can't find anywhere in your area.

If a business is going to have some vaccination requirement or something I would rather know before I get there. I guess it’s their business. If they want to require everyone wear a blue hat then it’s up to them whether their business succeeds or fails.

It is pretty simple for me, you want to have discrimitory policies on who can patron your place, then I am not going to come. I thought we went through all of this in the 1960s.

The owners of Yelp are desperate for customers. Most people stopped using it after seeing clearly bogus reviews, both positive and negative.

I lambasted COSTCO and a franchise liquor store because of their over-the-top mask policies. I just got this email from them:

Hello,

We're reaching out to let you know that our moderators removed your review of Costco and Lee's Discount Liquor because it is more representative of the extraordinary circumstances we are experiencing than an everyday experience at the business.

Thank you for your understanding and thanks for using Yelp.
