Texas Republican Gov. Greg Abbott asked the state’s hospitals Monday to consider postponing all elective surgeries Monday in order to combat a surge in hospitalizations due to COVID-19.
In a letter to the Texas Hospital Association, Abbott asked medical centers to “to take steps to ensure the availability of adequate hospital capacity to care for COVID-19 patients.” In addition to rescheduling elective procedures “for which delay will not result in loss of life or a deterioration in the patient’s condition.”
Abbott also ordered the opening of five new centers to provide antibody treatments for COVID-19 in addition to an existing facility in Lubbock.

Where is the cost/benefit analysis, Herr Governor?
If we are not going to punish the Chicoms for releasing their virus, at least we should build a virus hospital in every state for treatment because they will continue.
My daughter’s an OR nurse and last year they basically shut down the operating room except for emergency surgeries. They moved her back down to the ER (where she’d previously worked for 7 years).
She’s back at work now after maternity leave and she says the nurses are burned out after 18 months. HR had also cut her maternity leave down a week to get her back sooner.
That got a lot of people killed the last time.
There should be investigating journalists reporting on the REAL situation at hospitals.
It’s not his fault. Sick illegal aliens and the feds
*(That is the fat stack of cash that arrived from Pfizer on everyone's door yesterday with a note that said "play along OR ELSE!")
“ Where is the cost/benefit analysis, Herr Governor?”
I can’t read it. Does he mention the invasion from the southern border? Or is that just a federal thing that because he supposedly has no control over is not part of the problem?
Stop letting illegals into the country and flooding the emergency room. A lot of elective surgeries are important, they aren’t all boob jobs
Abbott strikes again. I laugh when people think TX is so free. In GA, I have been living a normal life since April 24, 2020 - gym, restaurants, breweries, etc.
Almost never wore a mask. During much of that time during the summer of 2020, TX was in a lockdown frenzy. Abbott is a control freak corporatist.
But Abbott said that Texans have the information and intelligence to make their own decisions on what steps to take to protect their health and the health of those around them. So there should be no need for this request, right?
Unless the hospitals are full. I think it is more localized.
We have found that Medicaid expansion has swamped the ER’s and EMS units. People call in for the dumbest stuff because it is free to them.
Also keep in mind that everyone will get Covid. Nothing can stop that, not even a vaccine.
WTH?!
Texas’s own dashboard does not indicate a capacity problem.

Scroll down and check out the chart for ICU bed capacity.
WTH is Abbott doing?!
Report from the ground in the Great State:
You see more people wearing masks, but just some. It was down to almost like none, now it’s about 10%.
Schools are starting up, Abbott is prohibiting mask mandates, but the Dallas school district, then the Austin school district, yesterday instituted mask mandates. Houston mandate on the way.
Lawsuits on the way, and Abbott being put into a bad situation because his competition for 2022 is based on his perception as being ineffectual so if he backs off, it won’t look good.
Houston’s a hot spot. If there’s capacity there, and there is, what the heck is the problem?!
If they only had to pay $5.00 for the visit it would cut down on at least 50% of this crap. Go to any emergency room and all you see are ILLEGALS.
Exactly.
While I do not believe for a second that hospitals are actually full, the component of covid patients there are probably divided percentagewise between jabbed and unjabbed exactly the same as the jabbed/unjabbed outside the hospitals.
In other words, there is no statistical significant vis-a-vis hospital stays to getting jabbed.
I get it. It's welfare state voted in by sheeple.
