Those who wish to disarm other people have a disconnect with reality. They refuse to believe some things are not possible. This creates problems.
One of the reasons people push to disarm others is they refuse to arm themselves. Having made that decision, or, having had that decision made for them; they personally see no cost to their disarming of others.
This is how ideologues who refuse to accept reality get elected again and again. Consider Kirsten Gillibrand, U.S. Senator from New York. From the nydailynews.com:
A measure to create a federal gun trafficking crime failed to make it through the Senate in 2013, on the heels of the devastating shooting that killed 20 schoolchildren in Newtown, Conn. Still, Gillibrand said she was “very hopeful” the legislation will pass this time around.
“Guns travel up the iron pipeline along I-95 from states like Florida or Georgia or Pennsylvania where gun laws are far less strict,” Gillibrand said in the news conference. “The percentage of illegally trafficked guns in New York State has continued to grow in recent years, but I refuse to believe that we can’t stop these illegal guns from coming into our state.”
She plans to reintroduce the legislation this week, according to her office. Adams praised Gillibrand for her dogged decade-long effort on the bill.
It is already illegal to buy a gun outside of New York, bring it to New York, and sell it in New York, without going through a federally licensed dealer. It is a felony in both federal law and New York State law. Gillibrand seems to think making those actions somehow more illegal, with more law, will work

Wishful thinking. It doesn't even work in third world dictatorships. Consider Venezuela.
It may "work" in sufficiently totalitarian regimes.
It is difficult to tell, as "official" and "unofficial" murders are difficult to separate, and all numbers coming from such regimes are highly suspect and self-serving.
How to reduce gun crimes...
1. Build more prisons
2. Hire 10000 more judges
3. No bail for crimes with guns
4. Create gun crimes court
5. Fast track prosecution
6. Impose significant prison sentences with no parole. Minimum of 10 years for gun crime.
7. If needed I would gladly pay more taxes provided those taxes get earmarked only for additional prisons.
8. Eliminate cell phones from prisons.
9. Send offenders to the furthest prison from their home.
It’s really not hard to do. Of course I’m not a bleeding heart liberal who believes everyone gets multiple chances at redemption. Not am I a politician...
What they actually believe is that they need to take away our firearms so they can do whatever they please to us like make us slaves, march us off to detention camps, ie re-education camps. or to just execute us.
I wish these morns that write this tripe would just tell the truth.
Or as I recently read, “The reason they want to take our guns is because they want to do something to us that we would shoot them for”
It would take hundreds of centuries for U.S. and Canadian criminals (including a few Adam Lanzas or Dylan Klebolds thrown in) to equal the number of people murdered in just one by only four governments (Soviet Russia, Nazi Germany, Mao’s China, and Pol Pot’s Cambodia) who first “legally” disarmed their citizenries.
How to reduce gun crimes.: 1) deal with the criminal as quickly and violently as they dealt their victims. Done.
