Hang in there, Justice Breyer. Donald Trump will be glad to nominate your successor in 2025. Imagine the heads exploding if Breyer retired in 2024, McConnell was Majority Leader again and told Biden "Nope, not in an election year". It would drive the left insane. Well, even more insane. They would be apoplectic.

Breyer retiring was just part of the wish list for the progressive left. There was no real anticipation in the legal world that he would do so. Court watchers were not even watching for it.
