Thomas Kean Jr., the New Jersey State Senate Republican minority leader, will reportedly announce his candidacy for New Jersey’s seventh congressional district.

Kean will announce his campaign to unseat Rep. Tom Malinowski (D-NJ) on July 14. He ran during the 2020 congressional elections and came close to beating the New Jersey Democrat.

He grew up on the family's estate in Livingston. His grandfather is Robert Kean, a former congressman from New Jersey. His great-grandfather, Hamilton Fish Kean, and great-great-uncle, John Kean, were both United States Senators. His grandmother's family are descendants of Peter Stuyvesant, the Dutch colonial Governor of New Amsterdam (now known as New York). His great-grandmother, Katharine Winthrop, was a direct descendant of John Winthrop, the first governor of the Massachusetts Bay Colony. He is also a direct descendant of Thomas Dudley, Governor of the Massachusetts Bay Colony and a signer of Harvard College's charter. His second great-great-uncle was Hamilton Fish, a United States Senator, Governor of New York, and U.S. Secretary of State. He is also a relative of William Livingston, the first governor of New Jersey.

When NJ finds a RINO, they go all out. Even JEB! looks manly next to this guy.

Y should Breitbart care. Flipping the seat perhaps but what do we buy?

I live in NJ and watched his “campaign” and voted for him.

He’s as RINO as it gets and pretty much a pussy to boot.

His “campaign” consisted of a TV commercial throwing the ball to his dog in a yard and his Dad there telling us what a great guy he is and how he reaches across the aisle.

Malinowski is certifiable scum. In this district, a conservative with balls would wipe the floor with him.

Relax this is my District and here in New Jersey we had a real Conservative run for Governor the last time around and we got a Never Trumper Rino in the Primary. In your post you forgot to mention that somehow Tom Kean Jr. is related to Teddy Roosevelt and his Father was Governor of New Jersey a very popular Governor of New Jersey and an excellent keynote speaker at the 1984 Republican National Convention. If there is anyone that unseat our Senators from the Republican side it is Tom Kean.

My district; for many years, a solid Republican seat. Kean could have won in 2020 had he put a little more effort in his campaign.

On 2nd thought Kean lost by just 5k votes in’20. The seat washers prior to that for 30 years. Kean is stepping up again and the name might mean something in NJ. He should go for it. He only needs a small wave-Just don’t ask for money but we can all wish him luck. District is 68% white-that means none of them are racists right?

Tom Keane Sr. was an odd duck. All RINO but with this aristrocratic vibe (Thurston Howell III accent and all) and somehow became a bit of a national celebrity during his tenure. So people who remember him being on the Tonight Show think 'what a great Governor he was!'

But name something he actually did ... nobody can answer that. The reality: he did stuff but his biggest achievement was being governor during the 1980s when America was a straight up utopia compared to what we have now (thank you Ronald Reagan). So people associate him with good times. His name still carries weight here, that's for sure.

Ok so I’ll send him $10. It’s my F.U. contribution-passive aggressive. I gave the same amount to the underwear model who succeeded Ted Kennedy. Money well spent but Kean will have to win the election first.

I'll add that his luster was augmented by the murderer's row of bad / mediocre governors who followed him. Jim Florio (1 term dem disaster), Christie Todd Whitman (two term do-nothing RINO), Jim McGreevy (criminal dem allowed to resign as punishment enough for the crimes they had him dead to rights on), Jon Corzine (1 term dem disaster), Chris Christie (two term fat loudmouth do-nothing RINO) and our current dictator democrat Phil Murphy.

Everyone on that list makes Tom Keane look like Churchill in comparison to them.

He ran and lost to marxist Tom Malinowski. His campaign was boring. He also ran in 2006 for a seat and lost. His father is known for being against hard lined conservatives.

I unfortunately live in NJ and it is a really weird state politically. North and South Jersey are polar opposites and one would be surprised how many conservatives and even “moderate” Democrats there are but Trenton is a complete cesspool of political corruption and malfeasance. Local politics is where so many care less and where the state is being paved over politically and literally.

With a pedigree like that he could win the Westminster dog Show.

Malinowski was born in Poland, but his stepfather was Democrat bigwig Blair Clark, classmate and friend of Robert Lowell and John F. Kennedy (who offered him an ambassadorship), manager at CBS News, editor of The Nation, campaign manager for Eugene McCarthy.

As in the neighboring district which was long represented by the Frelinghuysens (who were in politics since George Washington's day) it seems like you need a fortune and a pedigree to get very far in politics there.

This is my district. It was the closest race in NJ in 2020. Mail-in ballots were sent out to everyone on the rolls. I also read that NJ uses Dominion machines. Both houses are run by Democrats so voting rules are unlikely to change, and Kean will have an uphill battle. Malinowski profited personally from the pandemic, but it has received very little coverage here.

His attempts to get out of the state Senate to higher office have been perennial at this point and consistently unsuccessful.

South Jersey has solidly Dem Burlington, Atlantic, Camden and Cumberland Counties. Only solidly Pubbie county in south Jersey is Cape May. North Jersey has solidly red Warren, Sussex, and Hunterdon counties, along with purple Morris County where I live. The divide is NOT between “North” and “South” Jersey, it is those who live farthest versus closest to the turnpike.
