Former President Donald Trump is rejecting pleas from Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis to postpone a campaign-style rally this weekend some 200 miles from the Miami suburb where an international search-and-rescue mission is excavating bodies from the site of a collapsed seaside condominium.
DeSantis’s office has "made a direct plea” to the former president’s team, calling on it to postpone the Saturday event in Sarasota. One Florida Republican bluntly said Trump and his team need to “read the room.”
“The governor is getting tested here as to how far he's going to be pushed before he breaks ranks with President Trump. And he has to be very careful because this is Trump country,” this source said. “The base loves the president. But they equally love Ron. It's a showdown going on right now.”

Given that the July 4 Alabama rally is now cancelled, makes Sarasota all the more important as the Independence “Weekend” rally.

Trump’s rallies should not require the approval of each state’s governor.

Given what’s happened a rally at this time might be a bad idea. You can be damn sure that MSLSD will scream “insurrection”...as will the Amazon Compost.
Might be a good idea to postpone. It’s a pretty tragic event and there are a lot of people hurting.
trump can turn this into a rally for the search and rescue teams... raise some funds... make it real.
Two hundred miles is not like twenty miles.
The building collapsed, rescue work is underway, analyses on the cause of the failure are starting. There is nothing more to be done. Sure it was awful, but it’s a local event — are we supposed to stop the world for that?
I’ve liked DeSantis, but trying to stop the Trump rally 200 miles away is just nuts and pointless. It appears he is just picking a fight with Trump which doesn’t seem to a smart thing to do. They should be allies.

If true, I’m quite disappointed in DeSantis...but it very likely could be more Fake News to get Trump to cancel rally.
At this point, the building collapse is in recovery/removal mode and a Trump/July4th rally has NO IMPACT. ZERO IMPACT.

This is not a feud. Media creation. Anyway, 200 miles is about the driving distance from New York City to Boston. Which is far by the standards of the crowded parts of the country. But within the same state, psychologically, it probably seems closer. Anyway, this is just enemy psyops
