NY state senator: Single-payer healthcare bill has the votes needed to pass

New York state Sen. Jabari Brisport (D) on Monday said that a bill for single-payer health care in New York has the support needed to pass and override any potential vetoes from Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D).

"This is legislation that's been introduced time and time again since 1992. This is the first time ever in nearly 30 years that we have a majority of co-sponsors on the legislation in both the New York State Assembly and the State Senate. So we have majority support in both houses and we just need to vote on it," Brisport said while appearing on Hill.TV's "Rising."

Brisport stated that although Cuomo still needed to be "worked on" when it came to supporting single-payer health care, he was confident that there were enough votes to override any actions from the governor.

Cuomo does not support single payer because the big hospitals paid him off for shifting low reimbursement Covid patients from hospital beds to nursing homes.

As long as the health systems and consumers have an opt out.

We have single-payer, Government paid and run VA Hospitals for veterans, for comparison of likely outcome.

We had a single payer postal system before competition and tech practically obsoleted it.

States decide their own stuff. As it should be.

I’ll laugh as NY citizens go to neighboring states for their needs.

Exactly right!
The several states are meant to laboratories of liberty. Try different things, see what works.
Let NY state try single payer and let the rest of the country see how it works out.
I suspect people will start leaving NY even faster, though.

It will be fun to see the elite news people living in NYC complaining about living under the single payer health plan they have championed for decades. I bet some of them will move to Connecticut just to avoid it (if they haven’t already fled NYC over crime or taxes).

Excellent! Now all the progressives can finally go to New York and leave us backwards Texans be.

A win-win!

If you like your socialism, you’re lucky, because it sucks, and you’re stuck with it.

Stop calling it single payer. Call it socialized medicine or similar; call it what it is. Stop using the lying language of the left.

In a normal world, but in our world, leftist/Democrat NY will continue to enjoy bailouts from Fed.gov, and their massive debt and printed-fiat-money machine.

In 2020, NY State faced a $15-20 Billion budget gap, but with the rising stock market, and in particular the most recent Biden "stimulus," NY State now has a surplus and is also able to shovel money into a whole range of state authorities and agencies.

Vermont tried single payer almost 10 years ago. It was a complete failure, would have doubled the state budget, and was scrapped within 18 months.

“That belief would prove naive. The choices Shumlin favored would essentially have doubled Vermont’s budget, raising state income taxes by up to 9.5 percent and placing an 11.5 percent payroll tax on all employers — a burden Shumlin said would pose “a risk of economic shock” — even though Vermonters would no longer pay for private health plans.”

In a sane world that would work. But all Rat programs fail, but never change. They just get bigger

As the left keeps pushing for this, including all the liberal f’ing attorneys who are rolling in money, I propose a very, very, very strong push for socialization of the legal profession.

We need national legal insurance, with prices and hourly billing set by the government. Good legal representation is essential in order to have any chance of justice in our society. Biden said as much himself recently. As such, why should the wealthy and connected get dream team legal representation, while others get a public defender?

Why should people like General Flynn have to go broke defending himself? We need to put all attorneys on a salary - fixed by the government. I'm sure all of the attorneys in government offices, and all those who leave government and get lucrative jobs at big firms would be totally onboard with this. I mean, they're all on board with socialization of medicine, so why wouldn't they be. Right?

The elites will not care because they’ll go self-pay. If the plan has the Hillary-care prohibition of NY doctors taking private patients, they might bemoan the loss of the finer facilities in NY but will travel to other states. It is the unions who will lose their cadillac plans who will nip this in the bud.
