China on Friday issued a rare acknowledgement of the landmark massacre at Tiananmen Square 32 years ago, saying it successfully "aborted" an attempted revolution akin to uprisings in Eastern Europe and that it has been vindicated by its subsequent economic progress.
"More than three decades have passed by. Facts speak louder than words," read an op-ed in the state-run English-language Global Times, considered a mouthpiece for the Chinese Communist Party.
The brazen statements represent an escalation in how Beijing acknowledges its history of violent crackdowns against civil dissent. And they provide an indication that fears the country's communist leaders previously held about their ability to silence dissent are now waning.

I remember the Tiananmen Square protests. I remember the crowds created a statue, named “The Goddess of Democracy” which was a rallying point for the protesters. The Goddess statue reminded many of the Statue of Liberty.
But as we know from history, communism survives only through the imposition of force to crush dissent. And that’s what happened on that tragic June 4, 1989.

And now today we have Microsoft Bing apparently censoring Image results for “Tank man.” I tried it, and it doesn’t bring any image results. And even with “Tiananmen” and “tank man,” it just brings pictures of soldiers leisurely standing around Tiananmen Square.

yeah i at least still remember. the seat in the oval office was still warm from the great RR, and the gope was already busy bloodying innocent, freedom loving chinese students and dismantling RR’s great legacy.
the CCPCC is on a ‘china is great’ campaign. Power of the party to maintain ‘harmony’, threatening neighbors portrayed as military might, the space race, the nuclear race, building islands without a peep from environmentalists (much less Green Peace), bumper crops for all, and all is well in chinese urban heavens, show of ‘face’.
Which is incredibly poor timing, as usual, seeing that 160 countries around the world are still staggering under the CCPVirus. Which China was happy to spread with a contaminated army of millions of carriers, and tried to continue to spread through the shipments of contaminated and substandard vaccines, test kits and PPE that caused even more deaths.
