Nolte: Canadian Pastor Arrested for ‘Inciting’ People to Attend Church

The Canadian Gestapo were smart this time. Instead of breaking into and swarming Canadian Pastor Artur Pawlowski’s church — as they previously did during an Easter weekend service, only to be appropriately shamed and heckled out of the place — this time the Canadian Gestapo waited until after Saturday services to arrest Pawlowski, and did so on a public highway.

Naturally, the Gestapo treated him like he was Scarface. Multiple officers and at least four police cruisers were involved:

There are reports the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), a far-left fake news outlet, was tipped off to the arrest, which is why CBC photographer Rod Maldaner just happened to be on the scene when the arrest occurred. In a now-deleted tweet the Nazi-With-A-Camera celebrated the arrest and, naturally, passed along fake news:

This is the image of the day. Pastor Artur Pawlowski being arrested today in Calgary. Being a jerk has its consequences. He doesn’t seem to be laughing now. I bet he’s yelling #GETMEOUT. Next up, KJJ when he goes to the remand to protest.

Yeah, good work, journalist, except that wasn’t a photo of Arthur Pawlowski, that was a photo of his brother.

Reichsführer Maldaner has now locked his Twitter account.

I seem to recall there was this Jesus fellow who also incited people to attend church. Perhaps they can get a restraining order on his stuff ... /s

Canada may be in for interesting times. Ontario has closed the border with Quebec … not a wise move toward a province which has long been on the edge of secession. Throw in random trampling of rights, top it with an incompetent leader, and I wonder how much longer my wife’s homeland will last.

Not saying the Canuck Nazis up there would give a shite...or be required to be pay attention to such "quaint" ideas...but...

"...nor the free exercise there of..."

...should have some meaning to a self professed civilized nation.

The Holy Apostles were often arrested, too!

That only served to spread the Gospel and make the Church grow!!!!

And the stupid cops who “just follow orders” with this sort of behavior should get our support?

Once this happens in America en-masse all bets are off.

And we thought freedom won World War 2 and the Cold War.

In a caustic Evelyn Waugh novel about colonial Africa, an assistant to a fabulously rich tribal king puts it this way: "Up to a point, Excellency." Meaning, "No."

At this time, we all need to read a little further back into our history. As Jefferson put it in a letter, "The Tree of Liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is its natural manure."

I wish he were wrong. Man is fallen and imperfect. He needs to be taught the eternal truths again and again, the hard way.

It is a pastor’s job to incite people to attend church. Another religious freedom bites the dust over a fake plague.

This essay is still relevant because this is the Sixth Week of Easter (Rogatetide) in the West and the Second Week (Thomas Week) of Pascha in Orthodoxy.

Maybe especially relevant in the Orthodox East as we prepare for the Sunday of the Myrrh-Bearers who were prepared to break the Imperial Seal if need be.

The Resurrection is Against the Law

An excerpt from Bill Wylie-Kellermann’s classic Seasons of Faith and Conscience (1991).

The sealing of the tomb is, I believe, notoriously misunderstood. I grew up with a Sunday School notion that to seal the tomb was a matter of hefting the big stone and cementing it tight. The seal, in my mind’s eye, was something like first-century caulking–puttying up the cracks to keep the stink in. Not so. This is a legal seal. Cords would be strung across the rock and anchored at each end with clay. To move the stone would break the seal and indicate tampering.

The event conspicuously echoes the story of Daniel sealed in the den of lions. “And a stone was brought and laid upon the mouth of the den, and the king sealed it with his own signet and with the signet of his lords, that nothing might be changed concerning Daniel” (Daniel 6:18). As there, this is a legal lock on the tomb door–not air tight, but politically tight. To move the stone and break the seal is a civil crime. The resurrection is against the law.

The seal is also a recurring theme in the book of Revelation. Remember the scroll of history sealed with seven seals? Only One is worthy to break them and look upon or unveil the truth: that One is the Lamb who was slain. The seal is a claim of ownership and authority. Its meaning in Revelation is at least that God in Christ reigns sovereign over all history and in all events.

Caesar, in Pilate, on the other hand, violently disputes the claim. He has set his seal of approval on Jesus’ death, and now he guarantees it with troops. Secured by security forces. When the seal is broken in the resurrection, it stands among the signs that the power of the powers (death in all its forms) has been broken. The dominion of political authority–especially inflated, aggressive–and imperial authority has been cut to the heart.

I’m reminded of a bumper sticker:

“If you were accused of being a Christian,
Would there be enough evidence to convict you?”

This pastor is walking the walk.
