A Christian pastor in the UK was arrested by police after a member of the public reported him for the “homophobic” comment of saying that marriage was between a man and a woman.
Yes, really.
The incident occurred outside Uxbridge Station in west London. A video clip shows the elderly pastor being confronted by police and forcefully handcuffed before being led away.
“I wasn’t making any homophobic comments, I was just defining marriage as a relationship between a man and a woman. I was only saying what the Bible says – I wasn’t wanting to hurt anyone or cause offence,” said John Sherwood, who has been a pastor for 35 years.
“I was doing what my job description says, which is to preach the gospel in open air as well as in a church building,” he added.
Sherwood was arrested under the Public Order Act, for using “abusive or insulting words” that cause “harm” to another person after a member of the public flagged down officers snitched on him.
Although the pastor was released without charge after spending a night in jail he is still under investigation by the Crown Prosecution Service and could be charged at a later date.
“When the police approached me, I explained that I was exercising my religious liberty and my conscience,” he added. “I was forcibly pulled down from the steps and suffered some injury to my wrist and to my elbow. I do believe I was treated shamefully. It should never have happened.”
The UK is notorious for hate crime laws where authorities will investigate supposed “hate incidents” if the “victim” merely perceives themselves to have been victimized.
Earlier this year, we highlighted how officers in Merseyside took part in an electronic ad campaign outside a supermarket which claimed “being offensive is an offence.”
In 2019, UK police investigated the potential “hate crime” of a transgender woman being turned down for a porn role because she still has a penis.
A video published by the UK government Home Office last year also suggested that insulting someone’s appearance now constitutes a “hate crime,” despite this not being the law.

How f’ed up can UK be for arresting someone for expressing their opinion?
That is atrocious! He needs to sue!
Next, they’ll be arresting people who say that same sex couples can’t reproduce.
What kind of ambiguous silly law is that? It is impossible to know what words may offend another person.

This Pastor also wussed out in his response. He should have been more firm in his response instead of the wishy-washy whiney way he retorted to the charges.

I think you actually need to commit a real crime before a hate crime statute can be applied. This appears to be a law where merely offending someone with the words you use is a crime. It’s an impossible standard since as I said, there is no way to know what words may offend someone else. Just stating your own religious beliefs is a crime? Absurd.
I am not for offending people with malice, even though it is broadly protected speech it’s just not polite. But that UK law is nutso.
What was radical last year is conservative this year in the UK. And it also works the other way: what was conservative last year or, for that matter, 100s of years is now too extreme.
And the country that gave us the Maga Carta, the American Declaration of Liberty is now lost in some insanity vacuum where England’s collective brains have been sucked out and are swirling down the drain. What gives rise to this? The luxury of having no real bad problems. No problems to take attention off whether there should or shouldn’t be transgender bathrooms. Everybody is wired up, looking at everybody else and saying, “What a GREAT Dude I am!” Brits will embrace any crazy notion that gives them the status of being virtuous or eccentric. It’s easy and nobody has to account for anything important — but they will hate you if you disagree because you are then saying, “You are not a GREAT Dude! You are a poser, a wanker!” And the pitch battles rage on in TWITTER FOR TWITS and elsewhere.
I feel like a non-pod living in the movie, Invasion of the Body Snatchers.
They need to be sent back into the closet so hard that they never come out again.
Of course that’s just wishful thinking. The Bible says this will be more and more prevalent.

I love it, intentional or not.
We are in a dangerous situation when a man is arrested for speaking the truth. Everybody knows what marriage really is. The perverion to serve the homosexual community just is not taking hold.
