“The proposal authored by Ald. Gilbert Villegas (36th Ward) would send 5,000 families $500 per month for a year as part of an effort to study whether a universal basic income could...”

...guarantee that socialist politicians would be elected in perpetuity.

And the 5000 families would be chosen by whom and how? Perhaps like Oakland the families would be limited to “people of color” who have been hardest hit by the Wuhan.

L.A. wants to do the same thing.

I have no desire to look, but I wonder if that bill has any restrictions in it.

The entire $6000 will be spent by most people during week 1. At 21% a year on their lousy credit cards. And those balances will last years.

"Black Caucus Chairman Ald. Jason Ervin (28th Ward) called the proposal “a slap in the face to people that have suffered great atrocities over time in this country.” Ten African American aldermen voted against the measure.

To qualify for the payments, Villegas’ proposal would require applicants to prove that they lost income because of the pandemic, either because they had their hours cut or were laid off or because they contracted the virus or were forced to quit to care for a child whose day care or school closed."

Sounds like the black alderman is angry that the payments are going to people - regardless of race - who actually suffered financial loss because of the pandemic, and not to any deadbeat who just happens to be black.

They never give up. I have nothing more to say about the “basic universal income.” Anybody who proposes it is stupid and insane.

In some circles this would be called ‘conversion’ of funds from their intended purpose. And congress will...????
