The highly contagious UK coronavirus variant is now more prevalent in the US than the original strain that devastated the country last spring, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Wednesday.

“It is the most common lineage — period,” CDC director Dr. Rochelle Walensky said at a White House press conference. “We need to remain vigilant.”

The people most likely to be killed by Covid are either dead from Covid or immune to Covid now either through infection or vaccination.

Can I ask a stupid question?

Why is this called a UK variant? We were told we aren’t allowed to call Covid 19 the China virus.

So since we have established that we aren’t allowed to specify any geographic area associated with viruses, how is it we can refer to a UK variant, which is referring to a geographic area?

The honest answer is that they make it up as they go along.

Someone said “take the heat off china, and make the brits the center of attention for awhile...”, and that’s precisely what you’re seeing coming out of the newsroom sewage farms.

Masking social distance fault. As a result of attempting to keep people from getting Covid by government health agencies, they succeeded in the population *not* achieving herd immunity with the lesser strain of the virus.

As is typical, the attempts to stamp out a virus only result in the stronger strains surviving, which then multiply. Good job Fauci.

Yeah. We used to call it the common cold. They’ve just changed the name.

We can say UK variant but not the China or Wuhan virus. Orwellian.

It’s okay because the UK variant came from a nation founded by racists, similar to the Spanish flu of 1918-1919. Or Norway rats which carry the plague.

More contagious maybe, but not proven more deadly yet that I know of, course I don’t know much, but oh well. The south African variant is “supposed to be” more deadly too, but I don’t think they have even proven that yet.

Supposedly the vaccines cover the uk variant just fine. There is also the “Brazilian variant “ that is covered by vaccines too supposedly. In Brazil though for some reason it’s pretty deadly. Seniors over 80 osupposedly have a 22% (which is an increase of about 11% or more if I remember correctly) Increased chance of dying, while people between 50 and 79 had a 3-7% increased chance, but that was an estimate, not based on actual cases though last I knew. But still even at that, the overall survival rate is extremely high still. It only changed from .6% to .9% overall, so not even 1% IF their estimates even reflect reality

All these “estimates” were without vaccines, so don’t know what they claim for vaccinated folks now

The Soho version of the UK strain of the Chyna virus is probably the best one.

“We need to remain vigilant.”

I know what you can remain and vigilant is not what comes to my mind.
