While the world is focused on OPEC news and Easter preparations, the Ukrainian crisis is heating up and there is a real threat of a military confrontation involving Ukraine, Russia, and Belarus. Currently, the Ukrainian military is fighting Moscow-backed separatists in the Donbas region. At the same time, heavy clashes with Russian-backed forces in and around Shymy have been reported. International pressure has been building on Russia to force a direct ceasefire, but no moves have been made. In recent weeks, analysts warned of a possible full-scale military confrontation as they considered the military moves in the region as provocations by Moscow. At the same time, most confrontations were localized, with no real regional impact yet.
The military stalemate, however, could well be coming to an end. A growing amount of reports have emerged showing not only largescale Russian military movements towards the Ukrainian border but also Moscow’s only regional supporter Belarus has deployed new troops to the Ukrainian border. As Julian Ropcke, a German Bild reporter, said on Wednesday, large amounts of Belarus’ military hardware, including BTR-80 armored vehicles and military trucks are moved to the border region. Kiev has already reacted to the growing threat perception by calling up reinforcements. Ruslan Khomchak, Ukraine’s Commander-in-Chief, stated to the press that Russia is building up armed forces near Ukraine’s borders in a threat to the country’s security.

Two other facts are never mentioned: 1. The existing cease fire expired yesterday. 2. But for about a month Kiev has been putting military pressure on the rebels in Donbas and importing NATO arms.
All in all, I say yes...the Russians are going to invade and seize all land east of the Dnieper river. And nobody is going to do anything about it.
Nor should they.
Russia will invade Ukraine, and at the same time China will invade Taiwan. Harris/Biden will not lift a finger to help either one.
And?
We aren’t going to do anything but acquiesce.
Let ObamaIdiot’s handling of Ukraine-Russia be the guide/blueprint.
Always heartwarming to see the love for old Soviet Russia renewal by invading others here on Free Republic.

Russia has a better chance in invading Ukraine than China with Taiwan. Unless China is willing to use nuclear weapons then all bets are off.
Putin laughs, points and speaks to his comrades;
“and THIS....Is their ‘Leader’!!!!
We will reclaim Ukraine in the same way we reclaimed Crimea!
There will be no actual opposition, only token warblings. They will be far too busy keeping the newly arrived illegal criminals rounded up.”
Don’t call him byDUHn fer nuthin....
Russia got 1/2 of Ukraine when Biden was Vice President, they might try to get the the other 1/2 while Biden is President
We have zero interests in Ukraine.
Why would any POTUS intervene?
Russia senses weakness in the WH
Joe Biden in “Falling Down”.
That’s arguing from a rational point of view. The oriental notion of “face” is one of the prime drivers of the Han desire to “reacquire” Taiwan.
Ukraine HAD nuclear weapons (from when it was USSSR), they were talked into giving them up by the rest of the world with assumptions of protection
Whatever happens or has happened to Ukraine is an unfortunate message to other countries that want to start their own nuclear programs, which we usually try to talk them out of
Also somehow Putin/Trump got associated together and Biden/Ukraine, so conservatives take Putin’s side. But it makes no sense at all and we as a country should technically support Ukraine
Ukrainian observers believe the Kremlin may even consider a decisive military push through south-eastern Ukraine to create a land corridor linking Crimea with Donbas and end the peninsula’s chronic water shortage – Ukraine has blocked 85 percent of water supplies to the Crimea since 2014.
Crimea and Black Sea access has been a Russian project and possession for 400 years. They certainly don’t want NATO anywhere near Crimea. The only thing that surprises me is that Putin/Russia didn’t grab a land corridor when the Crimea Referendum was done in 2014. Why have they waited?
> Nor should they. <
If you mean that no power should step in and fight Russia over the Ukraine, then I must agree with you. But if you mean that Russia somehow deserves eastern Ukraine, then I must disagree. Unlike with the Crimea, even eastern Ukraine is heavily Ukrainian by nationality. Russia has no moral right to that land.
But as I’m sure you would agree, it’s all not worth the bones of a single American soldier (to paraphrase Bismarck).
“But it makes no sense at all and we as a country should technically support Ukraine”
We have no interests that indicate supporting either side.
Non-proliferation has been dead for 20 years. Those who can, will.
