Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas declined Sunday to provide a timeline for when the Biden administration will open new facilities capable of handling the surge of unaccompanied children at the southern border.
"We established three new facilities last week. ... We are working on the system from beginning to end. We are working around the clock 24/7," Mayorkas told CNN's Dana Bash on "State of the Union" when pressed on the administration's timeline for having new processing facilities up and running. "We have dealt with surges in the past and the men and women of Department of Homeland Security will succeed."
The comments from Mayorkas, who insisted the southern border is currently closed to migrants, come as the situation there worsens amid a surge in unaccompanied children in US custody. The Biden administration has resisted calling the situation a crisis, even as Democratic and Republican lawmakers do so as they pressure officials to rectify the growing issue.

It sounds like he's no more Hispanic/Cuban American than my naturalized white friend from South Africa can call himself an African-American. You’re both correct and I am aware of his background.
To call him “hispanic” is a joke of course; he’s a mixture of Ashkenazi and Sephardic Jewish people, and his mother is likely a descendant of the Khazarian Jews of the 10th century North of Anatolia.
But Sephardim would claim they are “hispanic” as they were in Spain from about the 1st century onward until the expulsion under Ferdinand and Isabella. Maybe his father goes back to that, and felt like Havana could be home.
But I really doubt it; going to Havana was a way to get to the US without being able to get in after the 1924 immigration act, which to them was the Most Evilest Act Ever....because it kept them out mostly.
So yeah...he’s not hispanic except possibly in a distant sense. But then my genetics tell me that I have relatives in Spain, who likely were left behind 6000 years ago when my ancestors migrated North into Northern Europe as the glaciers receded. Doesn’t make me “Spanish” or “hispanic”, although I share a lot more genetics with them then this guy probably does.

And to call him an “American”, and give him the keys to the security of the United States? Insane. He has only the most tenuous connection to this nation, and would be gone tomorrow morning if another offer was better. If it looks like the Chinese Communists are going to win the game, he’ll be camping in downtown Beijing and wearing bobby pins to slant his eyes.
But that’s the way he and his buddies conceive of the US. To them, there are no “Americans”. It’s just a parking lot to them: a temporary place to operate from. Move on when you have to, work out the next grift.

Good thing we let his charming little family in back in 1960, huh? I was one state away in Arizona, growing up in the heat...but he gets to live in Beautiful Bel Air, I guess to assuage his pain of leaving Cooba.
