Ilhan Omar reintroduces bill seeking to cancel rent, mortgage payments during pandemic

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) on Thursday introduced for the second time a bill that would guarantee full payment forgiveness on rent and home mortgage payments throughout the coronavirus pandemic.

Under the bill, titled the Rent and Mortgage Cancellation Act, there would be no accumulation of debt for renters or homeowners, as well as no negative impact on a person's credit rating or rental history.

The legislation also calls on the Department of Housing and Urban Development to establish and oversee a "Landlord Relief Fund," to cover any losses landlords would receive as a result of the payment cancellations.

Omar, under the legislation, also hopes to increase the availability of affordable housing by creating an optional buyout to enable the purchase of private rental properties by nonprofits, public housing authorities, cooperatives, community land trusts, and states or local governments.

Omar said Thursday while introducing the bill along with some of its more than 20 co-sponsors that the country is facing "an unprecedented crisis that has put millions of Americans at risk of housing instability and homelessness."

"To avoid an even larger crisis, we must cancel rent and mortgage payments during this pandemic," the Democratic congresswoman added. "This isn't a radical idea. It's what is needed to prevent an even bigger crisis."

The Minnesota congresswoman added that while President Biden's sweeping $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief package, dubbed the American Rescue Plan, "extends the national rent moratorium," it is "not a longterm solution."

THISMY FRIENDS, IS THE RESULT OF GIVING CONTROL OF NOTH HOUSES *AND* THE EXECUTIVE BRANCH TO DEMOCRATS.

Ilhan Omar first introduced the legislation in April 2020 as the pandemic first hit the country, spurring a financial crisis with widespread job losses and drops in income that put a strain on individuals attempting to meet rent and mortgage payments, as well as other costs of living.

However, the bill, which was introduced when Republicans still controlled the Senate, never received a vote.

Omar and the legislation’s co-sponsors, including Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.), argue the bill is as crucial as ever.

So what are landlords to do? They have mortgages and other
bills to pay.

You can’t waive your magic wand and make all debt go away.

The dems are in control and are going wild. They plan to implement every insane leftist dream.

They hate private property, and so last year they were ecstatic over being able to force land owners to give a free place to live to tenants.

This was illegal. The government does not have the right to invalidate the terms of a legal contract between two non-government entities.

Isn't it queer that Roger Stone was Swatted by full body armor wearing FBI agents replete with automatic weapons and a CNN crew to capture it all?.

And all the while this Omar b**** has committed for more serious Federal crimes which would be grounds for deportation of anyone else. Does anyone see a disparity here? This perjurer is the worst of the worst kind of foreign immigrant fraudster — American hating, Jew hating, White hating, brother marrying, Christian hating, terrorist enabling Mudslum communist sympathizer.

RE: So what are landlords to do? They have mortgages and other bills to pay.

I guess the Federal government will help them pay their mortgages and other bills. after all, they have the power to print money.

If these idiots think it is fair to cancel rent and mortgage payments, then it is also fair to give relief to the landlords and the mortgagors who hold that paper.

What's good for the goose is good for the gander.

It took me awhile to get over how Stone was so unnecessarily handled.

She has ethics complaints lodged against her. So does Nanny P.

Actually, this should have been done in March of last year. Gov't was happy to forcibly shut down of the livelihoods of millions of Americans and also forced them to still be liable for their debts to the financial institutions during that time.

In ALL FAIRNESS the banks should have been shuttered (figuratively) for the duration of the forced shutdown of America. If the US gov't forces me out of a job, why shouldn't my debts be deferred for that time?

This would have put a stop to this insanity from the get go. But no, politicians made sure their willing accomplices got their money and in turn they got theirs, but Americans were f'ed.

This bill is pure WELFARE

It is meant to keep you and yours pinned down so you can't move for yourself in any direction...except when you ask at a border crossing for asylum...illegal or not, you will be treated as an American citizen. Ilhan Omar and her Muslim think-a likes would have Americans break Constitutional law, because they don't believe a word in it except for that which benefits them.

Democratic presidential front-runner Joseph R. Biden, who has denounced President Trump’s efforts against Central American asylum-seekers, vigorously opposed resettling as refugees South Vietnamese who had helped the U.S. during the war.

who is running the country? "The LAPD’s ban on immigration enforcement mirrors bans in immigrant-saturated cities around the country, from New York and Chicago to San Diego, Austin, and Houston. These “sanctuary policies” generally prohibit city employees, including the cops, from reporting immigration violations to federal authorities.

Banks have to stay open.

Most people do not carry around cash, and paying bills without
a bank is very hard to do.

Plus you’d be making almost everyone a sitting duck for
robbers.
