The "one sized fits all" approach to Covid has been a huge failure and perhaps nobody has paid the price more than our children.
its cost everyone a lot, some a lot more than others
we have lost freedom
and too many people here are fine with it
“Obey the science” has become a mantra that means “do what we tell you and stfu”
and way to many fearpers have embraced this totalitarian attitude
just remember, the people pushing this orwellian control and demanding our obedience,
have for their entire lives, bucked authority, said rules are for tyrants, screw the law, screw you, I’m doing what I want, i want ‘freedom’
now that they have control they are bigger dictators and demanders of submission
you wanna be lumped in with em?
maybe that’s the person you really are then. maybe you’ve done us all a favor letting us know who you really are.
“victims of vehicle accidents”
I lived in Texas. I remember there being vehicle accidents. Not sure what you are saying. Maybe you chopped off the blog excerpt too soon.
The so-called “pandemic” didn’t cause these problems.
Out of control government did.
Some NM families have been sending their kids to Texas schools. A number of folks I know have driven to Amarillo to get Covid shots because NM is so unorganized.
It filled me with a boiling, seething anger to read that piece.
The people at all levels of the government who pushed this will never, ever be called to account for what they have done to our country.
And that makes me see red.
I knew this country was doomed a year ago when I witnessed the idiocy of FREEPERS (of all people) not only buying into the authoritarian bullsh!t being peddled by government and media ... but even getting on this website and scolding their fellow conservatives for refusing to shut down our lives and businesses.
It’s a very hard article to read, and everyone should read it. One of the best I’ve read on the topic and I’ve read many.
I’ve been involved in several private Facebook groups and activism in CA to try to get schools reopened (private and public are both affected), and to get sports back. Let Them Play, Reopen CA Schools, etc. I have two teens (both athletes) who used to live very different, busy, active happy lives before forced into their lonely dark bedrooms for “remote learning” by the state.
What I’ve learned after participating in 7 reopen schools rallies in front of district offices, and 3 LetThemPlay rallies, and 4 recall signature gathering events, is only these three things work:
1) Thousands of football parents calling, emailing, in rage in a single day to Santa Clara county to get them to reverse a particularly bad decision (harsher than the state’s). Football parents are enraged; I wouldn’t want to meet them in a dark alley.
2) Begin the action of recalling school board—to contact the county boards of elections and start collecting signatures. I do this every Sun afternoon and we are close to recalling one of our members, and will likely recall two more. I advise many parents in many CA districts to do this, and many are starting this. It lights a fire under the boards. They blame the unions but THEY make the final decisions to stay closed (if the state allows reopening which they have at certain points in time during the past year—the school districts and parents need to jump on that!).
3) Withdraw from districts and enroll in private schools or do homeschooling. This doesn’t hurt the districts at all (Newsom froze spending at 2019 levels and anyway the Dems just poured billions at the public schools today, for years to come) but it removes the child from the pain of remote learning. And best of all, the curriculum and teaching is universally better with either private or homeschooling.
It’s long past time for school choice and vouchers.
This is a poorly-written article. It never describes how Kooper Davis died and implies that his death was related to the ban on athletics. However, I read from another source that he died of a brain hemorrhage.
This is why liberals don’t WANT different states/cities/countries with different approaches. It may reveal that their approach was wrong.
May have cost my son a track scholarship
No track much
Lol
All the sound and fury now but this very forum was overrun with panickers early on
Big time
Freepers>amnesia
My son’s senior year last year...Class of 2020. It was supposed to be an extended Spring break because of Covid. A week extra. Two weeks extra. They never went back. His last quarter as a senior was spent at home. No graduation. Not a tragedy of tragedies, but he won’t have those memories.
My daughter is still at home. I think she has the opportunity to go back after Spring Break. But no sports for her. She did go to volleyball tryouts today. But she missed swimming and wrestling earlier this school year. And her grades aren’t good because of this online stuff.
I stopped reading after the whiney leftist statement about the federal government abdicating leadership during covid. States pretty much did what a Constitutionalist would expect.. their own thing.
Unfortunately the working class and conservative states are on the hook to bail out pensions and fund CA,and nyc and every other dem catastrophe.
Interesting, but Propublica is a left wing organization. I know that a story is a story, but be careful of the bias.
