No, and quite the contrary. ANYONE, with an ounce of understanding about the size of things and a little logic can understand the reasons. The size of the CCP virus is approximately 0.125 microns. Using a common everyday mask is like using a chain linked fence as mosquito netting. They you must consider that masks do not even fit tightly. It is a farcical joke to wear a mask. Even Tony FauxChi said masks were ineffective, then effective, then double masks would be good, but then went back to single masks.

NO they do not stop Covid but reading the cheap chinese masks are leaching fiberglass into people lungs. All part of the CCP master plan.

Humans do not exhale (sneeze, shout, breathe out, cough, etc.) significant quantities of aerosolized virions. However, these can be produced by some types of health care equipment.

We DO exhale (as above) droplets, which are larger and any decent surgical mask will catch almost all of on the way out. There are demonstrations on You Tube or even better, anyone with an elementary school (even now!) education can perform and understand their own test (also on YouTube and described on FR as well. The latter would be hard to search for though -- maybe some FReeper with a little time would be so kind as to describe in full and make a thread on the subject to be easily referenced.)

Droplets exhaled past a poor fitting mask (or obviously no mask), or through a thin cloth mask like a bandana, into a lower humidity environment, will usually dry to smaller size and some may dry small enough to float around in quantities sufficient to infect others.

There seems to be little certification and publicity of certification of mask effectiveness and materials' safety. (I am among other things thinking of a local TV station that used to post summaries of Health Dept. reports on local restaurants -- you really DO need to keep an eye on some restaurants.) This is another reason to do your own tests, do your own research, etc.

The above does not address "incoming", however, which may be present due to non or poor method mask wearers (mask below nose), poor mask fit, poor mask material, etc. Essentially, a good quality valveless N95 used with proper mask etiquette will GREATLY reduce inhalation of even individual virion size particles, and greatly reduce "outgoing" of all sizes as well. This has been well tested and published. N95's have an internal filter layer with electret charged fibers which actually grab individual virion size particles (less momentum and a more zig-zag path) more effectively than larger particles. Other layers assist with droplets.

Unfortunately, certification of Chinese made N95's (usually labelled as KN95 masks) by any US agency I know of seems to be scarce if it exists at all. User education of proper mask etiquette seems to be near non-existent too, except (again) on YouTube. And, good freaking luck getting N95's one would trust because they are made in the US by a reputable company (eg., 3M).

Note: Assuming your post was honestly a question, and maybe even if not, just the fact you even post this question demonstrates one of the most egregious failures I have ever seen by government agencies. We get everything bad in spades: A stomped economy, fatalities, damage all around, and people more at odds with each other over a virus than I'd ever imagined.

If it’s got a good seal and doesn’t let airborne droplets in. Pretty sure that a gas mask or an sCBA would be more effective.
