Robinhood forcibly selling shares of GameStop without users’ consent

Reports are coming in that Robinhood, the stock broker app, is forcibly selling shares of GameStop on behalf of some of its users. The transactions cannot be canceled and it is being positioned as mitigating “unreasonable risk” on behalf of the company as well as the investor.
Billionaire hedge funds have been taking a huge hit after a Reddit group started buying up GameStop shares in an effort to counter a massive amount of short positions. This prompted a “short squeeze” that sent the stock skyrocketing. As the dominos fell, GameStop reached a high of over $400 dollars per share, more than 10,000% higher than its low point earlier this year.
Now, it appears Robinhood and other brokers are cutting the losses of the billionaires by limiting the gains of small investors.

I think they shut it down. But yeah, if it comes back up I’m there.

It’s a new platform: Xitrade Jao Xiden and the Hoor approve this new platform.

Do either of you know of any other “brokers” who did or are doing the same thing?
If it is one I deal with, then I’ll move my equities to another firm.

Thanks, I understand fundamentally what you said. Still trying to digest the details of the process.

Edward Jones sent a ‘settle down’ email to me today. I replied to her that we are watching what is happening today with GME, and THAT’s what they need to be commenting on, not the 600 point drop after Traitor Zhao took office.
To: rxsid
What has happened here is very similar to what happened with Trump. What happened with Trump is that step 3 required them break all known laws that cover the situation and expect the regulatory bodies to look the other way.
Which is apparently what is happening today with GameStop.

Did the people forced to sell their stocks actually own the stock, or had they bought stocks on the margins, puts, calls, short, long.
To: fr_freak
Thanks, lots of good insight from several replies to my question. I am guessing that when someone puts in a short sell order that’s it’s publically available and that’s how reddit was able to time their purchases?

Maybe shorting should be illegal.
I can’t borrow a friend’s car, sell it, then buy it back at a later data so I can return it to my friend.
Yet, that is exactly what they are doing with stocks.
When investors have a vested interest in a company failing, something is wrong with the system.

The hedge funds have their mouthpieces go out on the news and talk down a stock - the target. That target has already been shorted by the hedge funds. They tried this with GameStop but the Reddit kids gobbled up the stock and drove the price through the roof (the opposite of what the hedge fund talking head on TV does). The hedge funds were literally bleeding from their stops and the Reddit kids were looking at being the Nuevo Rich thanks to the upward momentum. Robin Hood (automated trading app) shut the buy down (along with every other brokerage house) and would only allow sells (downward momentum). Now Robinhood is forcibly selling their shares. IOW, the hedge funds manipulate the market every damn day so the Reddit kids manipulated it in their own favor and the Hedge Funds got their political puppets to screw the Reddit kids. Now it's coming out that Janet Yellen has profited (to the tune of 800k) off her speeches at one of the firms that had to bail out the others and rumor has it she had something to do with the call to shut the Reddit kids down. Phew.

i am guessing that there must be something illegal about what Robin Hood did? Special prosecutor anyone?
