Ex-CIA engineer tells judge he's incarcerated like an animal

NEW YORK (AP) - A former CIA software engineer charged with leaking government secrets to WikiLeaks says it’s cruel and unusual punishment that he’s awaiting trial in solitary confinement, housed in a vermin-infested cell of a jail unit where inmates are treated like “caged animals.”

Joshua Schulte, 32, has asked a Manhattan federal judge to force the federal Bureau of Prisons to improve conditions at the Metropolitan Correction Center, where he has been held for over two years under highly restrictive conditions usually reserved for terrorism defendants.

In court papers Tuesday, Schulte maintained he is held in conditions “below that of impoverished persons living in third world countries.”

“It is barbaric and inhumane to lock human beings into boxes for years and years - it is a punishment worse than death,” the court filing said.

A message seeking comment was sent to the Bureau of Prisons and the Department of Justice.

Last year, a jury deadlocked on espionage charges alleging that Schulte stole a massive trove of the agency’s hacking tools and gave it to the organization that publishes news leaks. He was convicted of lesser charges of contempt of court and making false statements.

He is scheduled for another trial on espionage charges in June in what was said to be the largest leak in CIA history involving classified information. Afterward, he faces a separate trial on child pornography charges. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

In his 20s, Schulte, originally from Lubbock, Texas, worked as a coder at the CIA’s headquarters in Langley, Virginia, where digital sleuths design computer code to spy on foreign adversaries.

Russian Spy and former FBI agent Robert Hanson made a plea deal to get solitary for life instead of being executed. A few years ago I heard his brain has turned to mush from the conditions. I’m not sure he made the best deal.

Working for the anti-American CIA is no different than working for the Mafia. You can never, ever leave them, and if you cross them, the best outcome is a quick, painless, death.

I'm guessing this is the first thing the CIA plants on any computer they seize so they always go to prison.

Working for the anti-American CIA is no different than working for the Mafia.

At least the Mafia is privately funded.

The Mafia at least only kills their own.

Twitter style disclaimer: This claim that the CIA only using the code to spy on foreigners is disputed.

Seems to be. But not just so they go to prison, so they can be silently eliminated in prison because 'inmates hate pedophiles'.

If you can’t do the time, don’t do the crime.

ZERO sympathy for him from me.

I wonder what happened to the old “speedy trial” guarantee in the Constitution. Did this guy waive that right?

Absolutely!
The CIA and FBI follow the same protocols for keeping the serfs under their thumb...

We now will learn, first hand, what the Chinese serfs and the former Soviet (Russian) serfs experienced...
Definitely not a rerun of Happy Days...

off topic but a reminder about the lying hypocrites on the left-

The paranoid left who screamed about how no one needed guns or walls, have now surrounded themselves with guns and walls

Anyone having anything to do with the employment within any federal agency since 2016 needs to have their head examined. The agencies are stocked full of Peter Strozk little arrogant pukes that look down on the people of the nation.

Our agencies have classified the public in America as enemy #1. Their employees sell their services among political elites as thieves.spies.money launderers,fixers.blackmailers. extortiinists, and when dialed up, hit-men.

The federal government is packed full of people your grandmother told you to stay away from as a kid. Two dead flies are of more benefit to this country today than the federal alphabet soup.

And THIS is why Snowden did it the way he did. Without this man we wouldn’t know the CIA collected tools and techniques to blame any computer hacks or cyber crimes on other innocent parties..... right before the told us they were SURE Russia had “hacked” DNC computers and assisted Trump.

This man gave us the Wikileaks Vault7 and the Umbrage program.

Say what you want, there is no legitimate reason for the CIA to have the ability to conduct digital crime and blame it on other non-involved nations. That’s the scum activity of a lowlife, not of a nation that wants worldwide respect.

You have an interesting point. Those that do not care for the CIA will certainly hate a child pornographer. That unto itself can get him whacked in prison.

“I’m guessing this is the first thing the CIA plants on any computer they seize so they always go to prison.”

Yep, it’s well-known to be the case. And it makes sense, as it ‘encourages’ plea deals and thus lightens the load for the Justice Department.

Pretty much.
The CIA is very good at planting “evidence” on their targets. They've been doing that in foreign countries for decades. The CIA borrowed that straight from the NKVD.
