WASHINGTON (AP) — Washington, D.C.’s mayor urged calm Monday as some 340 National Guard troops were being activated while the city prepared for potentially violent protests surrounding Congress’ expected vote to affirm President-elect Joe Biden’s victory.
According to a U.S. defense official, Mayor Muriel Bowser put in a request on New Year’s Eve to have Guard members on the streets from Jan. 5-7th, to help with the protests. The official said the D.C. National Guard members will be used for traffic control and other assistance but they will not be armed or wearing body armor. Congress is meeting this week to certify the Electoral College results, and President Donald Trump has refused to concede while whipping up support for protests.
During a press conference on Monday, Bowser asked that people stay away from downtown D.C., and avoid confrontations with anyone who is “looking for a fight.” But, she warned, “we will not allow people to incite violence, intimidate our residents or cause destruction in our city.”

Now they want the help of military. Hmmm. Have heard that antifa will be dressing as MAGA, they will incite violence and the cops will say it’s not peaceful and will try to break it up and military help break up the people.
Look for the DC cops to protect Antifa/BLM and attack Trump Patriots. React accordingly...

The leftists protesting are mostly unemployed kids with a skate board and nothing to lose. The trump people are adults. Adults with nothing to lose, plenty of guns, and a serious grievance are much more serious - and dangerous.

She/it who painted BLM on a city street, thus destroying the traffic control markings, is afraid of Trumpers and will probably do something stupid. After all, she/it is in a situation WELL beyond its competence and it’s unpredictable how she/it will act.
Typical misleading AP headline. The mayor of DC has no power to “call in the National Guard”. Only the president (as the DC Guard’s commander-in-chief) can do that. The mayor can only make a request
