WASHINGTON — The Trump administration dove back into Capitol Hill’s confusing COVID-19 negotiations on Tuesday, offering a $916 billion package to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi that would send a $600 direct payment to most Americans — but eliminate a $300 per week employment benefit favored by a bipartisan group of Senate negotiators.

Tell those who are unemployed that they’d be getting 2 $300 checka and they shouldn’t be able to double dip as they did when they were getting the $800 checks AND the $1200 one.

That would be $300 per week not just two $300 checks.
I hate to agree with Collins, my former Maine Senator. but I do.
But I’m retired, don’t need the personal check, although I’ll spend it.
No member of my family is unemployed but a lot here in Florida are.

I have a better idea:.

1. Drop the "public health emergency" declarations and let people make their own risk assessments and decisions. Drop the asinine muzzle and social controls and get the economy back to normal.

2. Require cycle-count reporting for the PCR test, as Florida is now doing, and set a realistic threshold for what constitutes a meaningful "positive" result.

3. Reinforce hospital reserve capacity to handle transient surges.

4. Implement focused protection for the most at-risk demographics, as per the https://gbdeclaration.org/.

The entire sports, entertainment, travel, events, music, cinema, media, hotels, small business, restaurants and bars industry is shut done and most of these jobs are not coming back.

So what do you suggest?

Work a brutal manual labor, part-time minimum wage no-benefits starter job for the only sector that is actually hiring?

The Damage is done and was done 9 months ago, there is only a new beginning and it is Not going to be pretty or easy. Hard work and perseverance is really the only option. But unless the Totalitarians remove their Jack Boots off the necks of American Enterprise and The American People, it’s bound to get down right ugly.

It will. Most of the people laid off in the huge sector I mentioned that doesn’t exist right now were very skilled, many doing the equivalent of highly-skilled white-collar work using our brains. Most of America, including myself, is not suited for menial labor where muscle power is all that matters and brains are checked the door...

Trump administration has been completely off the rails wrong in handling economic relief around covid. The people who slogged through, that remained employed and continued to expose themselves to the dangers of contracting covid, were completely screwed in comparison to those that were able to hide away in their homes, safe from exposure. Unemployed perhaps, yes, but making more money than those of us that kept working.

Covid relief should have been tightly connected to the employed, with direct relief distributed in coordination with employers. Shall a person get sick with covid, a 1 month furlough could be granted for recovery, and immediately a federal covid benefit would be granted to the sick employee so that they would not have to worry about lost funds from missing work. After the very generous 1 month, the individual would be expected back to work and federal relief cut off.

Other benefits could have granted the employer during this time to compensate lost labor etc. But the way Trump/Mnuchin handled it was a disaster, just throwing trillions to people indiscriminately!

I became unemployed in March 2020..was told that they had to let me go because I was highest paid (hard to believe that with the size of the checks I would get every 2 weeks)and they couldn’t afford my salary during the lockdown. I immediately applied for and received unemployment. No, I did not make more than when I was working. I have continuously applied for jobs since then and nothing. Nobody is hiring.

Tell me, am I supposed to be able to exist on a one-time $600 payment with no further unemployment funding? Perhaps your views would change if you were in my situation. Easy to sit there and call me a bum, but you have no idea what you’re talking about.

I’m an oil industry refugee, didn’t get one cent of the last two stimulus checks due to me making 400+k in 2019 now 2020 barely made 30k in the stockmarket and zero consulting so how is a one time check going to help when? Texas UMP is $521 as the max benefit a week with the extra 300 it’s 821 that don’t cover the mortgage let alone food and bills. We need to open up demand and do as Asia does contact trace and forcibly quarantine every exposed person no matter how small the exposure and let the rest of the people move freely. You know like Japan there is no denying they have a plan that worked and is working. TheI have over 130 million people at population densities that make NYC look like rural Texas and yet they have a fraction of the total cases and deaths why? Forced quarantines of the sick and everyone they so much as passed on the a bus or subway tracked from GPS phone data and yes masks everywhere all the time for everyone. The formula is simple and the results are undeniable and not up for debate proof is in the math and it shows forced actual quarantine of sick and suspected sick plus masks works period and of discussion. Let normal people out and quarantine the F out of sick and those exposed to the sick it’s not that hard to understand how that works.
