Air Force Special Operations will have to adapt to major changes in mission and organization while coping with tighter budgets in the new era of great power competition, Lt. Gen. James Slife said Monday.
"One thing that's clear to us is that the future doesn't look a lot like the present to us," Slife, head of Air Force Special Operations Command, said in a virtual discussion with the Center for Strategic and international Studies.

Another idiot in the Air Force wants to kill off the A-10.
Bump
They’ll all be wearing dresses........
Brrrttt bump (A-10) might be more applicable for this thread.
They have done a lot to make the a10 more stealthy and a beter connected weapons platform. saw a great couple videos on the a10 a few days ago. One was a omplete tour of it as it is now, and a few discussing its weapon systems.
I think Spec Ops will be of great value to give asymmetric warfare against China and the Air Force needs to keep that in mind as they plan the future.
The general ranks must be ruthlessly thinned out. They're mostly moles and lobbyists for Boeing and/or Lockheed-Martin.
Having worked with AFRL on a variety of projects, there’s a lot of pork in research that will go nowhere.
And be useless in a fight.
Can Tranny Night at the Officers Club be far away?
My guess is that most any war with China will be cyber and naval. By the time the bombers get there, it will be over.
There is no way the warthog will ever approach "stealthy".
It looks like a burning barn door on radar and that is good because the bad guys know it is coming for them. Gives 'em time to think about it.
I said “More stealthy”, obvious meaning that it is more stealthy than it formerly was
Did i compare it to an f35 or f22?
I did not
First of all they now use radar absorbing paint on it, which they originally did not
They have made some surface changes to be less visible on radar
There won’t be a war with China.
They just paid to have Biden elected.
They will take what they want without a shot.
AFSOC doesn’t operate A-10’s, don’t worry.
It is true that the US requires the most modern baddest hi tech military in the world.
We need to get to the point where we don’t need many soldiers and we can take out targets remotely via drones and machines.
Transfer the A-10 to the Army and USMC. Air Force can pound sand. A CWO can pilot the A-10. Just my opinion.
Good questions.
I’ve gotten to the place I don’t trust any of these folks.
The only system mentioned in the article is the U-28A Draco, a modified, single-engine Pilatus PC-12, crew of 2. It’s been in service only 13 years.
To retire legacy systems you need a replacement that can fill the mission. Don’t do what the Army did in the 90’s retiring the M551 and then cancel its replacement, the XM8. The Army still doesn’t have an Airborne Assault Vehicle.
