Justice Sotomayor Upbraids SCOTUS Majority for ‘Playing a Deadly Game’ With COVID Restrictions

U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor issued a stinging rebuke of her conservative colleagues, calling out what she perceived as hypocrisy and false equivalencies in Wednesday’s ruling against New York Governor Andrew Cuomo’s COVID-19 restrictions.

In a 5-4 decision, the court’s conservative block of justices granted a temporary injunction requested by a Catholic Diocese and two Orthodox Jewish synagogues. By so doing, the court narrowly held that Cuomo’s regulations limiting attendance at religious services likely violated the Free Exercise Clause of the First Amendment. It was the court’s first major decision since the staunchly conservative Justice Amy Coney Barret joined the bench.

Sotomayor was having none of it.

“Justices of this Court play a deadly game in second guessing the expert judgment of health officials about the environments in which a contagious virus, now infecting a million Americans each week, spreads most easily,” the Barack Obama-appointed liberal justice wrote.

The “wise Latina” isn’t so wise after all.

She is an embarrassment to the Court.

This is same racist puke who claimed that being a “Latina” was a qualification for the Supreme Court.

There was a recent post on social sciences that featured this reply from a Harvard faculty member critical of Charles Murray from the original article, that is worth reprinting - it is with regard to the "certainty of SCIENCE":

"so why should we let someone teach social science that we know to be wrong in our social science courses?"

Because it is possible that you are wrong.
Science is not mathematics. Newtonian physics was wrong. And social science is a further three rungs down in certainty from science.

Your level of certainty and arrogance about what can be said, and probably thought, smacks of religion, and not science. This is a political religion that permeates academia at the moment. And which I am fairly sure you will swear does not infect you, while the rest of us can see the symptoms quite plainly.

Only religions ban heretics from speaking because of the wrong-think they might cause. Real science loves a good heretic. In fact, honestly, the entire goal of science is to be a heretic. To have an idea that no other person ever had. Science is the pretty much the antithesis of your thought-police approach.

And most of academia used to be the antithesis of your thought police approach as well, until the religion of leftism took it over, with the direct help of people like you.

Sotomayer will go down as one of the dumbest Justices to ever sit on the court. Her writings on Court decisions are not based on the Constitution but on her “feelings” and how she wants it to be. She also sounds like she is in fifth grade.

Why isn’t Sotomayor ever described in the media as “staunchly liberal” or even liberal?

It should have been a 6/3 decision, but Roberts has now fully embraced the dark side. Of course, now that Roberts is staunchly squishy he will get invited to all of the best DC parties so I guess there is that.

Nobody has the authority to override the Constitution. She’s wrong.

And seriously, we’re all adults. If we don’t feel safe going to church, then we can choose to stay home. It’s about FREEDOM!
