Barack Obama warned tech firms they cannot keep their blanket protections that protect them from lawsuits in a sign Democrats could soon target companies like Facebook and Twitter.
In an interview with The Atlantic ahead of his memoir, 'A Promised Land,' being published on Tuesday, Obama charged social media companies with turbocharging the rise in misinformation that has led to greater division in the country.
The former president that disinformation is the 'single biggest threat' to democracy.
And he said President Donald Trump was a result of it.
'I think it is the single biggest threat to our democracy. I think Donald Trump is a creature of this, but he did not create it. He may be an accelerant of it, but it preceded him and will outlast him,' he told the news magazine.

They want to up the cost of running a social media site so that only they can afford to do it and they’ll control what’s being said.
That’s why they’ve been taunting so much AND why the left is frothing at the mouth about Parler. Because if Parler can succeed that means the market is working properly and you don’t need to revoke the status.

Not really. The thing is that libs feel those companies discriminate against them (typically by allowing conservatives to post cat pictures), so they are jumping on the "get rid of 230" thing, too. Here's the catch: "[Obama] said regulation was the only option."
Because regulation through 230 worked so well, we might as well keep regulating, right? Me, I could get behind getting rid of 230 in favor of something that was applied as 230 was intended: to protect ISPs who connect ya to the damned net and not everybody who writes an app.

What he's really saying is "If you dare displease the Democrat Party, you will be destroyed". But the REAL target of his remarks are Parler, Gab, and the other social-media sites that Conservatives are flocking to.
All the major networks just cut into their normal programming to air biden and the ho press briefing. Made my wife furious. They are treating biden like he is the president now. We are being steam rolled and the so called republicans we elected are totally silent. We’ve been had for 4 years, pacified by claims it would all come out next week.
