We don’t have a two party system. We have THE Uniparty.

Now if Trump starts a MAGA Party it will be a different ball game. Basically the GOP would become extinct overnight and THEN we would have a two party system.

Way past time, but with the metropolitan control over fake votes presently...it’s probably too late.

Personally, I could see seven to ten political parties existing, but you’d have to destroy both the GOP and Democrats to reach that level.

Nobody cares what this moron has to say.

After his tasteless tweet about Rush Limbaugh, Savage should be banned from Free Republic.

Please ask for this post to be removed

I concur with you on Savage, I gave up paying attention to anything he says years ago.

That is only part of the reason Savage is not allowed into the UK.. to this day. He is intellectually smart, but personally empty.

Oh and major old queen fag. Photos easily available (disgusting) of the great old days he had swimming with Ferlinghetti and Ginsburg (the SF faggot “poet” society of rump pirates).

That said, he knows his pharmacology/natural biochemistry, and... he and his son own (or owned) the Monster beverage outfit of “pump you up” taurine, caffeing beverages competing with red bull etc. Can you say... cocaine leaf “flavorings”?

How does more parties make things better? Instead of a near 50/50 split you could eventually have enough parties for party with only 20% of the vote to win? That’s a recipe for really bad things to happen.

What we need are parties that are for America, not their pockets. There are too many on both sides that don’t seem to care about America and it’s preservation. Those that don’t put America first, should never be let near power.

George Washington on political parties, from his farewell address:

“I have already intimated to you the danger of parties in the State, with particular reference to the founding of them on geographical discriminations. Let me now take a more comprehensive view, and warn you in the most solemn manner against the baneful effects of the spirit of party generally.

This spirit, unfortunately, is inseparable from our nature, having its root in the strongest passions of the human mind. It exists under different shapes in all governments, more or less stifled, controlled, or repressed; but, in those of the popular form, it is seen in its greatest rankness, and is truly their worst enemy.

The alternate domination of one faction over another, sharpened by the spirit of revenge, natural to party dissension, which in different ages and countries has perpetrated the most horrid enormities, is itself a frightful despotism. But this leads at length to a more formal and permanent despotism. The disorders and miseries which result gradually incline the minds of men to seek security and repose in the absolute power of an individual; and sooner or later the chief of some prevailing faction, more able or more fortunate than his competitors, turns this disposition to the purposes of his own elevation, on the ruins of public liberty.

Without looking forward to an extremity of this kind (which nevertheless ought not to be entirely out of sight), the common and continual mischiefs of the spirit of party are sufficient to make it the interest and duty of a wise people to discourage and restrain it.

It serves always to distract the public councils and enfeeble the public administration. It agitates the community with ill-founded jealousies and false alarms, kindles the animosity of one part against another, foments occasionally riot and insurrection. It opens the door to foreign influence and corruption, which finds a facilitated access to the government itself through the channels of party passions. Thus the policy and the will of one country are subjected to the policy and will of another.”

Yes. I don’t even understand the question. The problem is that we DON’T have a two party system. We should, and it should be restored.

One party is the former Soviet Union and the current China. The Center is where the Party says it is.

14 parties is Italy. The Center is empty and the parties pull to the edges.

Two parties is the only system with a hope of an actual pull toward the center.

The Left is using the Italian model to get to China.

about Rush. I would listen from time to time.
After his Rush comment, he is off my listen list.

As someone who lives in Israel, I will tell you that the countless parties is a total balagan (thats hebrew for clusterf**k) here.

It could work here if they changed the laws to make it function better such as perhaps a direct election for prime minister and some other tweaks, but as it stands now, each interest group having their own party is a nightmare.

A two-party system is the inevitable result of our “winner takes all” system, where whoever gets the most votes wins the election. Whenever there’s a third-party conservative candidate, he splits the Republican vote, allowing the Democrat to win, and when the Left puts up a candidate, he splits the Democrat vote.

Our primary election system effectively works as a multi-party system, where each faction can promote their own candidate, with the general election being a run-off between them. It also guards against candidates who are two objectionable to a large percentage of the electorate, as the primary winner then has to get the votes of at least half the electorate.

Now that we are in a tyranny, the people have a God-given perfect right and duty to forcibly overthrow the tyranny and replace it with a non-tyranny

Multiparties only work even then it’s as you say a CF in a parliamentary system. It would take a major constitutional change. Basically it would mean throwing out the constitution and starting over.

here we have parties for

left wing, i love the arabs party
askenazi ultra orthodox party
sephardi ultra orthodox party
a hodgepodge of arab parties united under one umbrella
a secular russian party
an anti-religious party
a hodgepodge of right-wing, zionistic, religious “settler” party
likud (currently the Bibi party)
labor (old school kibbutznik socialist party)

at one point there was even a pensioner party (for old people)

if you cant find what you’re looking for or need, just start your own party like Ariel Sharon did in 2004!

did I miss any?

We have a strong built in bias in our system, to having two major parties. The requirement that a winning candidate for the presidency get a majority of electoral votes gives us that bias. If no candidate gets a majority of the electoral votes, then the House of Representatives picks a winner from among the top three candidates.

We have many political parties, if you think about it. There are Libertarian, Peace and Freedom Party, Constitution Party, Green Party, and others. But they never get enough support to gain electoral votes, or even elect members of Congress. There too, there is a bias towards having two parties, in that, legislation passes by majority vote of the quorum of each house of Congress.

Throughout American history, we have always had two major parties, though they haven’t always been today’s Republican and Democrat parties.

The Republican party arose at the same time that the Whig party dissolved.

In a constitutional republic such as ours, political parties should reflect the views of the people in that party, who in turn elect representatives to positions of power.

Even if we didn’t have political parties at all, there would still be factions arising which pushed liberal points of view, or push various causes, and such factions would try to gain a majority to pass particular legislation favorable to that cause.
