As Pennsylvania continues to report new daily coronavirus case counts in record numbers, the states Department of Health Secretary, Dr. Rachel Levine, said there are currently no plans to return to Gov. Tom Wolfs red-yellow-green mitigation phases.
Speaking during a news conference Wednesday regarding the states plan to eventually roll out a COVID-19 vaccine once one is approved and available, Levine responded to a query about the phases that may or may not have been prompted by a recent barrage of social media posts that claim Wolf is planning to shut down the state again following the election, despite there being no evidence that such a plan is in place.
"We have no plans to go back to anything like red, yellow, green, Levine said. We are working on all of our containment measures. Were continuing the mitigation measures that we have in place currently, and now were working on the vaccine.
"So, we have no plans to go back to red, yellow, green.
Under Wolfs plan, the red phase was a complete stay-at-home order, and businesses deemed non-essential also had to shut down. The yellow and green phases were less restrictive.
The containment measures currently in place focus mostly on bars and restaurants, as bar service is not allowed while alcohol can only be served for on-premise consumption in the same transaction as a meal. Foodservice businesses who complete the states self-certification process are allowed to host up to 50 percent of their capacity for indoor dining, but otherwise, they are limited to 25 percent.
Even with those mitigation plans in place, however, there is no question that the second surge of coronavirus cases have arrived in the state. Pa. has reported at least 1,000 new confirmed cases for more than 30 days, and it set records for new cases on Wednesday and Thursday of this week, when 2,795 and 2,900 were reported, respectively. Fridays numbers, which will provide an update as of 12:01 a.m., are expected to be released around lunchtime today.
Additionally, 40 of 67 counties made the states watch list earlier this week, and the percent positivity rate increased, as well.
We are continuing to see a large number of new cases of COVID-19 across the state, Levine said. "COVID-19 is really impacting all of our communities, and everyone in Pennsylvania, which is why it is essential that we take steps to stop the spread.
As I have said previously, we have three ways, three tools in our toolbox to control infectious disease outbreaks like the global pandemic of COVID-19: containment, mitigation, and vaccination.
As for when a vaccine will come, that continues to be up in the air, but even once it is ready, an immediate return to what normal was prior to the start of the global pandemic should not be expected.
"Until that time, and I cant tell you when that will be, we need people to continue all of the safety measures that theyre doing right now, Levine said.
Pennsylvania Ping!
Please ping me with articles of interest.
FReepmail me to be added to the list.
Election is past.
Of course not, the election is over.
And ‘it’ has a plan to go green, yellow, red.
So what?
As predicted by many here.
And there it is. Biden won so there is no need for the previous lock down policies. The very same lockdowns that many Freepers encouraged and thought would keep them safe at home while drawing monthly checks for the government.
Guess what Fearpers youre no safer and now a whole lot less free.
RICHARD has spoken!!
Ping
So tell me “Doctor”, have you put your own mom back in the nursing home?
isn’t time for him to go take a spa day?
I suppose our idiot “Governor” - “Zero-percent Inslee” - will declare that Covid has been defeated, so we can get back to life as normal.
Sickening. But what is more sickening is that 60% of WA voters re-elected this guy.
Re: 7 - There were several FReeper who squealed with delight at getting money, usually along the lines of “I’ve paid into the system for a long time, I’m just taking what’s mine.”
Leaves me wondering who else is easing up restrictions.
These Fearpers didnt have to worry about unemployment. Like you say they were taking whats mine but they were doing so while insisting the rest of us should be locked down.
One of the craziest comments was that you should not travel very far from home at all - by car or bicycle, etc. The rationale of this FReeper is that if you were involved in an accident you could spread COVID-19 to a first responder or vice-versa. Just craziness.
Fearpers have helped Biden claim the presidency and dampened Dem losses. This election would have been a Red tsunami without the lockdowns.
Funny how the press no longer cares about Covid. Gee, who didn’t see that coming?
The Surge is plainly Wolfs fault, and the fault of his ineffective Department of Health that makes up rules as it goes along. They call it science, but it is simply a dramatic presentation, complete with costumes, that pretends to address public health issues while destroying the PA economy.
