So what if Biden is up in the polls? Weren't they wrong last time?

Whenever President Donald Trump is confronted with polls he does not like, especially the torrent of national data showing him trailing Democratic challenger Joe Biden in public support, the president’s response is usually the same: Fake news.

If the polls were always right, his thinking goes, Hillary Clinton should be running for re-election, not him. The former Democratic presidential candidate consistently led Trump in state and national polls in 2016 before he won the White House, just like Biden does now.

But opinion poll experts say there are good reasons to trust this year’s polls more than those of 2016.

Here are a few of them.

The F&M poll here in Pa. this morning has Biden up 6 points in Pa. That's unchanged in the last two weeks. Four years ago this poll had Hillary up 6 or 7 points going into the weekend before the election.

That seems like a "tell" right there. We've had a major presidential debate, and there has been major news about Biden Family corruption. Those things didn't move the needle at all? Polling results are still unchanged? Well, then it's not a poll at all. It's just numbers on a sheet of paper intended to manipulate people.

These dopes can rationalize all they want, but there’s absolutely no way for the polling industry to ever “improve” in an environment where many, many people are willing to flat-out lie to pollsters.

Conducting polls these days is like estimating health statistics of Americans by asking them to self-report their weight and health habits in a phone conversation. Poll people about that kind of thing, and you’d end up reporting a nation full of people with the physical condition and exercise habits of Olympic athletes.

Same thing with mutual fund managers. Put 100 in a room and have each flip a coin. The 50 flipping tails are eliminated. Repeat until only one manager is left.
