Traditionally, an officer lying to avoid getting into trouble, was in a lot worse trouble than if he had just admitted it.
Yes, it can be useful information for soldiers, family members, civilian employees, contractors, visitors. A lot of installations have graduation ceremonies, museums, monuments, or other facilities that the public can access.
I can't get over the fact someone posted sexually explicit comments on an official public site.
Who does this? I don't want to be mean but how dumb do you have to be?
Pretty much the whole company was in. Everybody pretty much knew the post was closed - but until you got the “official word” you had to operate as if it was open.
That was back when Ft Bragg was still an open post so at least we didn’t have to do the gate check.
Most likely he made 2 mistakes:
Mistake #1: he forgot he was logged into the Ft Bragg twitter account instead of his own Twitter account, because he updates them both from the same device.
Mistake #2: he didn’t make sure he was sending a PRIVATE message to the sex worker and so it went out for the whole world to see.
They use it for public announcements as other have said, not for things such as troop movements.
And with civilians working on post, they have a need to know that the post will be closed because of weather, road construction on post. And for military and their dependent to know if the commissary PX/BX/NavEx are closed or reduced hours or if there is a training event that will cause the post/base hospital to be closed or have reduced services.
