At about 1:30 in the morning of 2 January 2019, four people attempted a home invasion/burglary in Yuma County, Arizona.
I remember the incident as it was reported. Very few details were given. Four people were shot. The location was not revealed. It was not in the City of Yuma, because the Sheriff department was the responding department. The identity of the defender was not revealed. The firearm or firearms were not identified. Deputies involved were not identified. From foxnews.com, at the time:
The Yuma County Sheriffs Office responded to a 911 call at approximately 1:38 a.m. Thursday and discovered that four individuals were shot after breaking into a home.
According to a news release, Edith Guerrero, 36, Jaden James, 18, Leonardo Gonzalez, 27, and Jessica Aynes, 28, woke the sleeping occupants as they entered.
The unidentified occupant with the gun fired several rounds, hitting all four suspects and ultimately killing one.
I suspected a semi-automatic rifle might have been used. They are especially well suited to repelling multiple home invaders. The investigation was ongoing. More information did not surface until a few days ago.

There is also the inconvenient (for them) fact that people using modern rifles in self-defense is contrary to the media’s narrative - so even if they are told, they will try to avoid reporting that.
...or as the NY Times would report:
SUSPECTED TRUMP SUPPORTER WITH ASSAULT RIFLE GUNS DOWN PROTESTER
All-metal AK, or a knock-off. Likely not Russian made, as I don’t think Russia made any without wooden stocks. Could be wrong.
Illegals/banditos invading remote homes along the border has been problems for centuries. President Trump is the first leader to do something about it in decades. At least in this case even though the wall didn’t help, the home owner was able to “resolve” the situation.
Later in the day they returned to break into the home of the family. The teen-aged son was there and had an AR 15 rifle.
The invaders, armed with hand held weapons (knife and a blunt object), refused to stop when warned by the occupant. He fired on all three. All three died.
He was not charged.
The invaders would have hurt him otherwise.
On closer look, the stock appears to be synthetic.
Good thing it wasnt an assault rifle. /s
The way things are going a 30 round magazine is a must with extras ready. The gun grabbers are letting anarchists run wild and letting dangerous people out of jail/prison and at the same time put more restrictions on guns. A kid could see what they’re trying to do. Some day the left will try to go for the throats of freedom liking people. So arm up. Load up. And keep them clean.
A teenaged girl was home alone. A man broke into the home. The girl desperately tried to get to a gun. She knew how to shoot and had plenty of practice. But the pigs in control of that abominable state ruled that all privately owned firearms had to be secured in a safe/lock if minors were present.
The girl could not get into the safe.
The attacker raped her, then murdered her with a pitchfork.
What I wish upon those filthy pig lawmakers and political whores in kali .......... is not permissible to put in print.
I'll just leave it to your imagination.
Russia hasn’t made wood stocks in a while. None of the AK100 series have wood from the factory, though they can be fitted.
Molots, Veprs, bulgarian arsenals and a bunch of others I’m not thinking of because I’ve only been awake for about 45 seconds.
Palmetto State Armory just started putting out an AK 103 clone I’d give my teeth for. LOVE me some 100 series! I can’t really tell from the picture exactly which the above AK is; it helps to hold it in my hands so I can inspect
They’ve ALWAYS gotta get that “semi-automatic” in there, as if it was some kind of scary boogie man word......................
Synthetic stocks are standard on Russians, these days. That said, importers might have swapped out Russian furniture for US synthetics to comply with 922r.
So, wood stocks on AK clones have made them high dollar collectibles?
“...importers might have swapped out Russian furniture for US synthetics to comply with 922r.”
Yes, that’s possible.
What you say is true, most reporters are completely uneducated about the firearms used in the majority of crimes and home defense. I have no argument there.
I myself don’t care much for semi auto anything. After seeing my uncle’s semi auto 12 ga shotgun, Remington 1100 I think, jam a couple of times, I never liked semi auto again.
I do have and use a couple, 9mm Taurus, 380 Jiminez, had a LLama 22 long ago. Highly inaccurate, got rid of the 22.
For home defense, if I wanted a rifle, I think I would prefer the Marlin or Henry .357 lever action. I can fire one fast enough, I had a 22 Marlin 39a for years, it was very accurate, and 357 hollow point is a good round. with any open sight rifle I can keep 20 shots in a target the size of a saucer even in an emergency, and for home defense a scope would be an impediment.
That said, my preference is my trusty pump shsotgun. Second choice is the 9mm. The last thing I would grab is a rifle. But if I had only a rifle to choose, the lever action gets my vote.
I keep shotgun and pistol within reach at night, which one to grab is a matter of how much time do I have. If I have to grab and shoot, pistol. If I have time to get ready, 10 seconds or more, it will be shotgun. Rifle is way across the room, bolt action and not even on my list for home defense.
Locally, we have a very large Army owned explosives factory with many many acres of land
Perhaps 50 years ago, someone with foresight planted about thirty acres of walnut trees. In the meantime, while the trees were growing, stocks were made of plastic and the walnut trees continue to grow
AKs with wood stocks are generally cheaper than, say, side folder. Underfolders are usually lower cost too. Polymer furniture has become the norm
Thank you for saving me from having to write this post. Speaking of this PSA AK, GarandThumb just did a great review on it a few days ago.

I’ve seen it already. Grand Thumb’s my boy
