‘New Illinois’ group prepares to declare independence from Illinois on Saturday

A group preparing to declare its independence from Illinois said residents are growing frustrated because they say they aren't being properly represented at the Illinois statehouse.

G.H. Merritt is the chairman of New Illinois, a nonprofit and nonpartisan group that plans to declare independence from Illinois from the Hancock County court steps this Saturday

“We have a lot of support from the red side, you know the libertarians and the Republicans, but I really believe that’s mostly because those are the people that live in the area that doesn’t have a voice,” Merritt said.

After Saturday’s declaration, the group will lobby state lawmakers to get on board, she said.

State Rep. LaShawn Ford, D-Chicago, said he’s open to having a conversation with members of the group.

“I think with a county and a community down there trying to declare independence is just their right to do it but I think that’s what you call cutting your nose off to spite your face,” Ford said.

New Illinois has 20 counties that have ratified resolutions supporting the effort. The goal is to get all counties except Cook to get on board. And it’s not just southern Illinoisans that are frustrated.

Merritt said the rest of the state is being controlled by Chicago politics, and not being represented.

“Up in Lake County, people are exiting the state, people are complaining about the state, people are supporting our movement, and it’s not because anybody's all worked up about all of their money going to Alexander County, it’s because of the corruption, it’s because of the taxes.”

Illinois has a long history, with recent examples of bribery charges and federal investigations of corruption. The state is also consistently listed as the highest tax state with the largest unfunded long-term debt and worst credit...

I’d like to see Jefferson State do likewise in CA, and most of Virginia extricate itself from the northern part of the state.

I’d like to see every state secede from the marxist cities that control them.

They should reverse annex Chicago.

Make these democrat hellholes independent municipalities. Part of no state.

Unfortunately the US Constitution says it can not be done with out that state’s permission.

West Virginia was loopholed because Virginia had left the Union and giving their permission was made a pre-condition of readmittance.

My daughter lives in Lake County. Her taxes are $12,000+ a year.

At the Constitutional Convention of 1787, Alexander Hamilton threw around a lot of ideas at dinners at the various taverns, ideas he did not broach on the floor of the Convention itself.

One idea was to dissolve the 13 states and free the individual counties to form new states. The final result might be 5 states or 25 states.

Regrettably, Hamilton also wanted to strip the states of much of their sovereignty, an idea he did in fact broach on the opening day of the Convention in his five hour "grand design" speech. At the end of his speech, there was only silence. George Washington, presiding officer at the Convention, uttered the polite 18th Century version of, "Next!"

There might be some merit in reviving the idea today.

Regardless of outcome this election, I suspect successionist type movements will happen soon. Let the fun begin.

I live just outside of Hancock County. Great place! It’s a solid red rural county, and the sheriff there has refused to enforce the governor’s WuFlu mandates. It’s nice to visit towns in Hancock County and not have to worry about putting on a facemask to enter a restaurant or store.

IIRC, there’s a USSC precedent that told Upstate NYers that they will be continued to be screwed by all the parasites in NYC without recourse.

I have no doubt the local MSM outlets in Chicago will cover this like it’s put forth by a bunch of ‘right-wing extremists’.

Cool!

I’d like to see NY State split in two. Give the Left everything from Puoghkeepsie south to NY City. Let the rest of the state manage itself

Prayers that Illinois shocks the nation and votes Red for President DJT. Wouldn’t that be a glorious present.

This is a very interesting idea. Let’s say the rats are successful enough at voter fraud to get Slow Joe in the White House and they go ahead and make DC & Puerto Rico states which effectively creates more rat senators.

This could be offset by CA,OR, WA, CO, VA & NY states splitting with their respective rat strongholds keeping original state names and the red patriot parts of each state seceding and creating separate states.

Yup. Sad because people in Buffalo and Rochester have far more in common with the Rust Belt Midwest than the Manhattanites.

Um, didn’t I see a post last month about the “strong black woman” mayor of Rochester being indicted for something or another.

Sounds very NYC to me.

This one, and NOVA, and Jefferson State... neatly offset the Dem’s plans to make Puerto Rico and DC into states.

There would be way, way too many states and DC would become nothing more than an endless cluster-fxxx. Oh, wait a minute, it already is.
