How the 2014 Midterms Wrecked the Democrats' Supreme Court Hopes
American Thinker.com ^ | September 28, 2020 | Taylor Lewis

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s death leaves an opening for the Republican president and Republican Senate to replacing a notorious pro-abortion, arch-liberal Supreme Court justice with a rock-ribbed, unflinching defender of young souls in utero.

Donald Trump and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell have made plain their intention to fill the vacated seat. Nothing short of a meteorite crashing into the Capitol dome will stop the President’s nominee from being confirmed. McConnell has herded the votes; Trump is giving no quarter to courtesies like making the pick contingent on November’s electoral outcome.

Before the country enters a conservative counterpoise to the Warren Court era, it’s worth considering the series of events that brought us here. Justice Ginsburg could have easily passed during a Hillary Clinton presidency, or had her successor elevated by a Chuck Schumer-led Senate. The 2020 Republican presidential candidate -- Marco Rubio, Nikki Haley, or, Elohim have mercy, an ever-hopeful Mitt Romney -- could be begging Democrats to withhold the inevitable: putting a young progressive jurist on the Supreme Court with decades of service ahead.

That’s not what’s happening, much to the relief of millions of potential babies. And it isn’t just because a Republican occupies the White House. It’s not just that Mitch McConnell kept his mulish grip on the Senate through the 2018 midterms.

If the rumor mill is correct, RBG was too smart by six-and-a-half in rolling the dice on a Hillary win and Obama being named to replace her.

If she had retired six years earlier this conversation would not be happening.

Mitch McConnell does not command the Senate.

He cajoles, he manipulates, he persuades, he threatens, he promises, he bribes.

He gets the job done, but he cannot and does not command like a military commander can.

What really wrecked it was the way they went after Kavanaugh. Not only was he confirmed anyway, but the up-for-reelection democrat senators who attacked him lost their seats. But for that they would have taken the Senate and today would be a whole nuther ball game.

RBG should have retired in 2009 during her first bout of Pancreatic Cancer and the Dems controlled the Senate and the Presidency, but her ego wouldn’t let her.

Then Sam, he needs to snap the whip on the RINOs up there and get them in line to do it. They need to get this done before the election or Biden will do everything in his power to have her nomination and confirmation set aside because he won and only he as the winner has the right to do it. You have your thoughts Sam and I have mine.

This all would have been mute if RBG had decided to retire in 2014.
Instead she decided to make a political statement waiting for Hillary to select her replacement.
I suspect she got wind that Obama wanted Holder to replace her and she said “Heck No”

That had to twist in her craw while residing on her deathbed.

Yep, I have heard stories that she wanted the first woman president, Hillary, to name her successor. The media would have had “historic” moments, as they reported a woman president, replacing a legendary Supreme Court justice, with another woman nominee.

But it wasn’t meant to be. So Ruth had to try to hold out until Trump was no longer in office. Ruth felt she couldn’t retire.

I’ve also heard that Hillary wanted Ruth Bader Ginsburg to swear her in as president. Normally the Chief Justice swears in the president, but there too, the media would have had “historic” moments to ponder, with a woman Supreme Court justice administering the oath of office to a woman president.

But that wasn’t meant to be either.

The democrats have gone too far to the left with people like Bernie Sanders and AOC and her squad of misfits. People are tired of the riots and Covid. They see what liberalism has done to the cities. Trump is the only one that can fix this mess.

If Biden wins he will only be President for a month and Harris will be President.

Yep, the low info voter needs to connect the dots and the campaign needs to facilitate that reasoning. Especially Suburban White women who are voting against masculinity and for an end to our culture.

Maybe she was not wanting some other nitwit like Kagan and Sotomayor to replace her.

I pointed this out last week several times.

RBG’s hubris is the main cause of this pain for the Dems.
They should be blaming her. I am sure many are in secret.

Obama could have replaced her. She chose to stay. maybe she was really a racist.

The LORD does move in mysterious ways.

BINGO!!!!

Wouldn’t retire for Obama either. The Republican squishes would have approved her replacement in 2015.

LOL. Darth Bader Ginsburg had every opportunity to step down in 2010, when Obama had a Democrat Senate. She didn’t have to work until she was 87. But the power mad can never let go. If she was that worried about getting another young commie on the SCOTUS, she could have left then.

I keep praying that 72 year old Clarence Thomas will step down in 3 years or so and let Trump nominate his replacement, rather than work until 82 and then let a Democrat replace him when he dies. What good is another 5 years of power only to see the court turn left for the following 25 years. You would think intelligent conservatives would take a longer view than just the selfish one.

I don’t expect him to retire in 2023 like he should. These guys want that power until death takes it away from them. Sad.

It’s glorious when you consider airhead lib/Dems did this to themselves.

They had plenty of opportunities w/ Obama in the WH to retire RBG and replace her with a (gag) like-minded jurist.

Cant you just hear them now as we type? “Let’s wait. Hillary is a shoo-in for prez. Our plan is to replace RBG with Obama.”

What could possibly go wrong?
