I cringe when I see insults of McConnell. I am sure he has done some bad things. But one could credibly argue that this man alone has actually saved the Republic. He deserves respect.

Collins could have a Cabinet for the asking in the upcoming second Trump Administration for what was a remarkable speech October of 2018, not so much in support of Justice Kavanaugh, but for dissembling the Democrat dissemblers and directly putting Feinswine to shame -- nay, censure! -- in the well of the Senate.
"But today we have come to the conclusion of a confirmation process that has become so dysfunctional it looks more like a caricature of a gutter-level political campaign than a solemn occasion.

There are some who argue that given the current Special Counsel investigation, President Trump should not even be allowed to nominate a justice. That argument ignores our recent history. President Clinton, in 1993, nominated Justice Ginsburg after the Whitewater investigation was already underway. And she was confirmed 96-3. The next year, just three months after Independent Counsel Robert Fiske was named to lead the Whitewater investigation, President Clinton nominated Justice Breyer. He was confirmed 87-9.

One theory I have heard espoused repeatedly is that our colleague, Senator Feinstein, leaked Professor Ford’s letter at the eleventh hour to derail this process. But the fact remains, Mr. President, that someone leaked this letter against Professor Ford’s express wishes. I suspect, regrettably, that we will never know for certain who did it. To that leaker, who I hope is listening now, let me say that what you did was unconscionable. You have taken a survivor who was not only entitled to your respect, but who also trusted you to protect her – and you have sacrificed her well-being in a misguided attempt to win whatever political crusade you think you are fighting. My only hope is that your callous act has turned this process into such a dysfunctional circus that it will cause the Senate – and indeed all Americans – to reconsider how we evaluate Supreme Court nominees."

McConnell will let the never Trumpers in the Senate that this seat is bigger than Trump, and will serve the conservative cause long after Trump serves his second term.

They have been given an early gift. They can't squander it.

That is an excellent idea for a deal between Trump, McConnell, and Collins.

However, Senators make bad department leaders. Maybe an ambassadorship? Since Collins is from Maine, make her the new ambassador to Canada. The current ambassador is acting to fill a vacancy, and he's an Obama appointee. Maybe Collins wouldn't mind going to Canada for awhile?

I agree with your last point. And perhaps things will play the way you suspect. And I’m wrong on my take on things.
At least in the Lewiston/auburn area the poll doesn’t come close to reality, I’m hitting doors for Trump, and having done this for a decade I know when people re telling things I want to hear. He’ll carry Auburn, come close in Lewiston and which means he’ll dominate cd-2. Is that enough to win the state, maybe. And maybe drag Collins to victory.

Did Democrats hesitate to impeach Trump because it was an election year?

Linda is losing so he dix this to gin up his votes. Collins on the other hand said she doesn’t think there should be a vote before the election. She is behind also.

I bet Linda wins and Suzie loses.

I don't know Maine, but here are some regional poll results:

Vote for Senate:

Region Sample Size Collins % Gideon %
Acadia/Bangor CD2 11% 43 53
Cumberland 25% 27 64
North CD2 19% 58 38
Rest of CD1 29% 48 45
Southwest CD2 17% 49 44

Favorable/Unfavorable:

Region Sample Size Collins % Gideon %
Acadia/Bangor CD2 11% 50/50 57/36
Cumberland 25% 36/59 64/28
North CD2 19% 64/34 43/53
Rest of CD1 29% 46/49 56/40
Southwest CD2 17% 58/39 50/47

Notice how "Rest of CD1" is voting for Collins, but Gideon has the better favorables.

Prefer Control of Senate:

Region Sample Size Republicans % Democrats %
Acadia/Bangor CD2 11% 36 59
Cumberland 25% 27 65
North CD2 27% 56 39
Rest of CD1 29% 41 54
Southwest CD2 17% 51 44

BREAKING: A Senator does the right thing but wants attention and credit it for it.

LOL

And "someone doesn't stab Trump in the back" or (another rarity: an inverted Jenny 24 cent postage stamp (image of a biplane is upside down on 100 copies known to exist). In 2016, a single Inverted Jenny sold at auction for $1,351,250.

That’s interesting stuff, thank you. It’s easy for me to get caught up in my own area, but Cumberland County is always the issue. The way to overcome this is for the State GOP, county committees, to engage in grass roots efforts. We’ll never have the money the left has, so volunteer organizations must do what they should do. Have it’s members knock on doors, make a personal connection with the voter, week after week, every year.
As for the hear and now, any chance we have to overcome the Portland advantage has to have come from voter id. How many R’s and I’s didn’t vote in 2016? That’s the group Trump/Victory has got to turn out in this state. The supreme court nominee could help this effort.
Appreciate you listening, thanks.

The fairy knows his blubber butt will be gone this election cycle if he doesn’t support Trump. After the election, when he is re elected, he can go back to his “Im Gonna” inaction crap.

The first Supreme Court were all Christians, it at least had a Biblical worldview for the understanding and interpretation of the constitution. Such a different polarized America now.

How many R’s and I’s didn’t vote in 2016?

The poll doesn't say, but the sample includes 9% of people who didn't vote in 2016.

Here are a few more interesting poll results:

Approve or disapprove of the Collins' vote to confirm Bret Kavanaugh:

Region Sample Size Approve % Disapprove %
Acadia/Bangor CD2 11% 36 58
Cumberland 25% 25 69
North CD2 27% 52 42
Rest of CD1 29% 38 55
Southwest CD2 17% 45 45

Approve or disapprove of the Collins' vote against impeaching convicting President Trump:

NOTE: This question is written in the negative. First, they say "impeach" instead of convict or acquit, since the House impeaches and the Senate holds trials. Second, the question didn't ask their opinion of acquitting President Trump, it asked about not convicting President Trump. That introduces a bias towards the presumption of guilt instead of innocence (which is the standard in the United States).

Region Sample Size Approve % Disapprove %
Acadia/Bangor CD2 11% 30 66
Cumberland 25% 37 58
North CD2 27% 51 46
Rest of CD1 29% 44 55
Southwest CD2 17% 46 51

Approve or disapprove of the Collins' vote to repeal and replace Affordable Care Act:

Region Sample Size Approve % Disapprove %
Acadia/Bangor CD2 11% 57 34
Cumberland 25% 48 37
North CD2 27% 49 40
Rest of CD1 29% 54 35
Southwest CD2 17% 43 48

NOTE: The surprise here is that most of the state hates Obamacare and approved of Collins' vote to repeal it (even the liberal parts). However, southwest CD2 preferred to keep it, despite favoring her and preferring a Republican Senate. I don't know what the situation is in southwest Maine to drive this sentiment.
