President Trump coming to Harrisburg International Airport next week

President Donald Trump is returning to central Pennsylvania.

The president is slated to appear at Harrisburg International Airport in Lower Swatara Township on Sat., Sept. 26. The event is slated to take place at 7 p.m. A release from the Trump campaign bills it as a “Great American Comeback Event.”

Both Trump and Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden, the former vice president, have made several visits to the Keystone State in recent months.

Biden visited Harrisburg and Lancaster on Labor Day, speaking to union members and vowing to be an ally to unions in the White House. Both Trump and Biden appeared at the Flight 93 Memorial in western Pennsylvania on Sept. 11, visiting hours apart. Trump spoke during the memorial service.

In December, Trump and Vice President Mike Pence appeared before a capacity crowd at the Giant Center in Hershey. Hundreds more who wanted to get in were turned away because the arena was filled.

Trump’s visit underscores the importance of Pennsylvania in the presidential race. Political analysts have said Pennsylvania is one of the key states that could determine who wins the White House.

Trump won Pennsylvania by less than a percentage point in 2016, but his victory here was a key step in winning the election. Biden, a Scranton native, is aiming to move Pennsylvania back to the blue column.

On Tuesday, Trump participated in an ABC News forum at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia. He defended his leadership during the coronavirus pandemic and said he never downplayed the threat of the virus, contrary to the widely publicized reporting of journalist Bob Woodward.

Biden took part in a CNN town hall in a minor league baseball park just outside Scranton, blasting what he described as Trump’s “criminal” and “totally irresponsible” response to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Trump campaign has been paying attention to central Pennsylvania. Donald Trump Jr. spoke at a “Sportsmen for Trump” event just outside Harrisburg earlier this week.

Polls show Biden leading Trump in Pennsylvania, but some surveys put the edge within the margin of error. Trump drew strong support from central Pennsylvania four years ago and in unexpected places, such as Wilkes-Barre and Erie.

Harrisburg International Airport is easily accessed from the Pennsylvania Turnpike via a couple of miles on I-283 and PA 283.

This could handle a very large audience. There’s tons of tarmac between the airport terminals and the PA ANG. It would be pretty cool if they lined up some EC-130s along with Air Force One. I’m not sure if Trump will take Air Force One given how close to DC the venue is. The runway at HIA is long enough to handle Air Force One if he doesn’t take Marine One.

Precisely, where will the rally/meeting be held? The PennLive article doesn't say. Airport building access is generally limited to plane ticket holders. Does the Harrisburg International Airport have a large area that's accessible by the public without the need for a plane ticket and TSA security?

Pennsylvania Air National Guard is adjacent. Used to be called Olmstead AFB.
