Democrats are backing away from vows to reverse President Trump's tax cuts if they take control of the Senate and White House.
Senate Democrats had suggested they could move quickly on the issue, but now say they are likely to delay stand-alone tax legislation if Democratic nominee Joe Biden is elected president and their party controls the House and Senate.
Instead, the priority will be on spending to create jobs and raise wages, investments in green technology and infrastructure and a national plan to contain the coronavirus pandemic.
Some of those stimulus and relief bills could include tax incentives for clean energy infrastructure and strengthening the nation's supply chain and domestic manufacturing base. Tax relief in the form of child tax credits and earned income tax credits for lower- and middle-income families are also on the table.
But potential tax increases on wealthy individuals and corporations are expected to come into play later, depending on how significant the deficit concerns are next year.
The coronavirus and the way it is hitting the economy is a huge factor. Raising taxes while the country is recovering from a recession would be a risky political move.
Democrats realize they need to tread carefully on taxes and the economy. While Biden is leading Trump in the national polls, voters still give Trump higher marks on handling the economy.
There are also divisions among Democrats over how far to go with taxes on corporations and the wealthy, which makes it difficult to move quickly on the issue.
"I think we ought to make the decision when we have a better sense of where the economy is going," said Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), who added "there's an element of truth" to the argument that policymakers shouldn't raise taxes during a recession.

As Rush always says, their internal polls must be horrendous. The question "Do you want your taxes raised?" isn't getting the answers they expected.

They roll this same old tired crap out every single election cycle. If government "investment" is so great, then why didn't Obamao's "investment" in Solyndra and 500 other "green" companies over eight long years pan out? How many of those sham firms are going enterprises today?
There is no way on God's green earth to "contain" the virus causing the pandemic. That horse left the barn when all the Chinese got on planes to visit relations all over the world in January. There's a saying: "Viruses gonna virus" and there is nothing mankind can do to stop them little capsid-coated bits of RNA from doing what they are going to do short of a vaccine. We have the world's biggest crash vaccine development program underway. What, exactly, will they do to "contain" it?

Well, he has so far, now sort of back tracked on these issues:
* Reversal of the Trump Tax cuts
* Ban on Fracking
* National Mask Mandates
This reminds me of Papa Bush’s “Read my lips” promise and Obama’s “I am not for gay marriage” campaign statements.
Then, after being elected, they suddenly and conveniently “evolved” in their way of thinking.
This is just a DNC head fake.
Once they grab power, they are going to tax us to death.
The Dems are for and against everything, so you can’t blame them for not keeping their campaign promises.

Biden telegraphed his position to raise EVERYONE’s taxes and he will. I wouldn’t doubt if they retroactively raise taxes on the “$1200 CV19” checks people got. Consider that just an advance on your refund (if any).

Democrats must be doing internal polling and they're finding out Americans see them as obstructionists.
Trump is trying to move the country forward and they're holding it back.
They're not even putting up a fight. They've lost the narrative.
