Sick world.

Why moving to Poland is becoming an option for me.

The flight should not have been delayed. The fighters should have been denied boarding that flight. The gate crew should have assessed the situation as one they could not risk passing to the in-flight crew. The fighters should have been offered separate later flights, to catch up with their luggage, AFTER being charged by the police for “creating a public disturbance”.

I never did like the DC-10.

I was a jet mechanic in another life (and a lifelong aviation enthusiast) and to me, the DC-10 always seemed like a Frankenstein plane, put together to get Douglas into the wide-body market way back when. Don’t know if that is an accurate characterization, but that was my perception.

I think there was a famous accident some years ago where a DC-10 had crashed on a runway, and I believe for a period of months, the charred unmistakable tail section carcass of that plane sat within view of the arriving and departing aircraft (I guess for investigation purposes or something)

I swear I saw that thing once, or maybe I just imagined seeing it in my mind...

Did 747’s change over the years? I recall taking a 747 once (getting kicked out of the upstairs cocktail lounge) - but I don’t recall them having that much room. Of course that was years ago and my memory is crap.

I remember the year when they first came out. My old man took me with his Rotary Club and we did a walk through of one parked on the ground. Pretty cool.

That’s why it’s safest to just say ‘it’.

But what if they self identify as plural.

Is 'them' okay?

Sigh. There is a weird, scientifically driven cultural poison present. I know it has always been such, but the arrival of these weird technology issues seem to be outpacing our ability to absorb and deal with them, and we get some very unpleasant cultural effects.

It brings to mind Winston Churchill's quote in his famous "Finest Hour" speech where he said: "... But if we fail, then the whole world, including the United States, including all that we have known and cared for, will sink into the abyss of a new Dark Age made more sinister, and perhaps more protracted, by the lights of perverted science..."

I know the context is different, but...I keep hearing "the lights of perverted science" in my mind.

I like the Poles, but...we want to keep you American! (assuming you are...)

The two fighters have demeaned themselves! That behavior is appalling, shameful, absolutely disgusting!!! I don’t care who you are or the color of your skin. No one should be allowed to act like that in public.

It’s time for the black community to take out their trash. Call a spade a spade. Stand up and say, “This is wrong! This is not who we are!”

These two deserve all the negative comments they are getting.

I do not agree with him on a number of things and he has rubbed shoulders with some people I'd rather not be associated with.

However...

He's not wrong in this regard. Others have stated similar philosophies over the Centuries. No matter how distasteful some find it, no matter how much we strive for peaceful resolution, no matter how loving and/or Zen we want to be with the World...

The BS stops when the cudgel meets the brain-pan. And it always will.

The great object is that no free Man should ever be debarred the use of arms.

Etc...

Repeating themes we should NEVER forget.

“This is wrong! This is not who we are!”

But... This IS what their Culture is. Take a peak at WorldStar Hiphop some time...

It's not what it should be.

It's not what it could be.

It is not "right" by any reasonable standard.

But, it is what it is.

Could be. I remember coach on a 747 as being 3-4-3 instead of 2-4-3. But the picture you linked does look like a 2-4-3. So I will concede the point to you for some airlines.

OK, the very first interior photo of a finished 747 back in 1968. The plane was on the ground because we know that the first actual commercial flight was still a year away.

Thank you! That makes sense now. It was a publicity photo and probably used for advertising. And of course, that explains why they were dressed to the nines and evoking the old-style elegance of air travel in the new modern Jumbo Jet!

IIRC, it just ended. Everyone retracted their phones, the flight attendant walked away, and everything returned to normal.

I don’t even recall what it was about, though I was close enough to hear clearly. I was focused on the odd sensation of seeing the event being recorded simultaneously on so many phones.

What the hell is that all about? Nothing to do with supporting the verbally abusive passenger, but...I didn’t like seeing all those people doing that.

Some years ago when I was in the USN and my ship pulled into Alexandria, Egypt, the Marine detachment guarding the embassy invited the ship’s company to an open party in their huge walled compound, no small thing when you are on a carrier!

So, there was a lot of drinking, and I got pretty hammered. I was in a small closet sized bathroom taking a leak, staring at the two rickety green shutters right above the toilet tank, when I heard someone chewing someone else out right outside the window. I tipsily leaned over and opened the shutters to see at about head level, a large, intimidating, black Marine Gunnery Sergeant chewing out a young Marine (I knew he was a Gunnery Sergeant because he was the Top Sergeant for the Marine detachment on the carrier (back when they had them)

He turned to look at me, and said something to the effect of “You better close that window and mind your own business or I am going to come in there and beat the snot out of you!” or something to that effect. Honestly, I cannot recall exactly what he said, I was so shocked to see him there...and I hastily shut the window shutters.

Point is, I had no business eavesdropping. It was none of my business. I almost felt like those two arguing parties on the plane should have both turned to all those nosy people with their phones and said “What are you looking at? Mind your own business!”

Of course, in today’s world, an unruly passenger on a plane can be everyone’s business in short order, but...I don’t know. Didn’t seem right.
