Los Angeles County Evicts Grace Community Church From Parking Lot

For the past 45 years Grace Community Church has leased a large portion of its parking lot from Los Angeles County.

On Friday the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works terminated that agreement – no doubt in retaliation for the church invoking its Constitutional rights to gather for Sunday worship.

“If Grace fails to vacate the premise as required, the District may enter the premises and remove Grace’s personal property,” the letter said.

The California mega-church was given 30-days to to vacate the property. The church had been paying $8301.41 per month to use the parking lot.

Where is the US Attorney for Los Angeles and Barr’s Justice Department?

President Trump, remember your America First message. Defending freedom in America is a more urgent issue than fighting for freedom in Hong Kong, Iran, or Venezuela. Please send Justice Department lawyers to file an injunction request in federal court. This church’s constitutional rights are being violated

It would be real telling when the next Earthquake hits if the Church still stands while the County building collapses.

So the church vacates an empty parking lot or the county gets to go steal the churches stuff?

I don’t get the logic. It also seems the church needs 24 hour security to protect it from the county.

Lease a lot elsewhere and have shuttle service to the church.

A member of the congregation needs to set up a holding company to lease it from the county. Once the deal is inked, the company could give permission to the church to use it.

In the meantime, the church needs to sue the City.

So the County will enter the parking lot and remove items. Last time I was there it’s just asphalt. Go ahead, eat the pavement you heathens. They can rent another lot and have a shuttle. I’m sure there are a lot of businesses that are shut down and would like to rent out their lots. The county is the loser.

So the church leases JUST the parking lot but own the church building and property itself? Article isn’t clear on what the church actually leases. LA County is forcing the church to vacate the entire property or just the parking lot?

It’s either massive illegal government overreach or horrible editing and writing.

“The Church has peacefully held this lease for 45 years...”

The church can file a suit against the county in federal court and argue Adverse Possession.

I don’t think “adverse possession” would ever apply in a case where there’s a lease.

No, they would lose, but it would tie it up in federal court for five years.

Exactly. And carpool to use less parking space. Or does that church not have any of it’s own parking space?

Religious discrimination.

I am telling you churches, all churches need start announcing they are having a “civil rights” “protest” EVERY Sunday, until the governments either quit demonstrating political bias toward churches, compared to “social justice” “protests”, or make rules that apply universally and equally to all large gatherings regardless of their purpose or location.

What’s the terms of the lease? 30 days doesn’t sound like it would be a reasonable time to terminate. What are the penalties for premature termination? What zoning will be applied to the repossessed property? County may be opening a huge can of worms on themselves.
