On March 15, as the novel coronavirus was beginning to surge in the United States, Dr. Anthony S. Fauci accomplished a rare Washington feat: He appeared on all five major Sunday talk shows.
But the White House worried that Fauci might upstage (and sometimes contradict) President Donald Trump, and soon his media handlers were no longer approving his high-profile interview requests.
So Fauci found another way to get his message out: He said yes to pretty much every small offer that came his way: academic webinars, Instagram feeds and niche science podcasts as well as a few celebrity interviews.
That’s how Fauci, the country’s leading infectious disease scientist, found himself talking to the American Urological Association in June; the Economic Club of Chicago in July; and the “Brazda Breakfast” briefing this month.
And it may be how he ended up with a polyp on his vocal cord. “Essentially I was talking all day without interruption for six months,” he wrote in an email message Friday, the day after he had surgery to remove it.
The coronavirus pandemic has turned Fauci, a career government scientist first propelled into public view in the early years of the AIDS epidemic, into a genuine celebrity. There is now all manner of Fauci swag — Fauci socks, T-shirts, coffee mugs, buttons, stickers and masks. When the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame made a doll in his likeness, it “quickly became our best-selling bobblehead of all time,” said Phil Sklar, the group’s chief executive officer.

The attraction to fame is highly alluring..........what Fhuci’s doing is like teens and has been celebrities are doing in taking videos of each other and posting on youtube or social media.....podcasts aren’t much different as they have their own following as well.

Thousands of coronavirus sceptics are set to descend on Berlin on Saturday for a mass protest against pandemic restrictions that was allowed to go ahead after a bitter legal battle.
Police said they will turn out in force and strictly monitor compliance with mask-wearing and social distancing, with Berlin police chief Barbara Slowik warning that if the demonstrators do not adhere to virus safety rules, police will clear the area “very quickly”.
“We will not be able or willing to watch tens of thousands assemble and create infection risks,” she added...
The ban sparked outrage from organisers and their supporters who flooded social media with angry messages vowing to protest anyway, with some even calling for violence...
The court decision to allow the protest shines a light on the battle lines being drawn up between those who are content to follow government-mandated protection measures and those who believe that governments shouldn’t be able to dictate how people live.
At the start of August, a similar “anti-corona” march in Berlin took place with 20,000 protesters, a mixture of the hard left and right, anti-vaccination campaigners, conspiracy theorists and self-described “free thinkers”...
Meanwhile, the German Hotel and Restaurant Association reported that hotels in the capital recorded noticeably more bookings for the weekend.
“We assume that the rooms were booked in connection with the demonstration,” Thomas Lengfelder, the association’s local leader, told the Augsburger Allgemeine newspaper.

7min ago: In Berlin, police, who deployed 3,000 officers to control crowds at a march expected to reach 20,000, have prepared for possible violence as activists opposed to the virus measures urge social media followers across Europe to arm themselves and gather.
Activists, angered by Berlin’s decision to ban protests after demonstrators at a recent rally failed to wear masks or keep their distance, flooded the city with thousands of applications for additional protest rallies this weekend.
“The gatherings planned by several initiatives for August 29 against the corona policy of the federal and state governments can take place,” the court ruled.
Responding to the ruling, Berlin’s interior minister, Andreas Geisel, said the court had given protesters a second chance to show they could comply with distancing measures.
“I appeal to everyone to gather in Berlin without violence,” he said.

At the beginning of the AIDS epidemic, Fauci was rightly excoriated for causing the deaths of thousands because he reisted promoting available treatments for AIDS as he held out for a vaccine. Of course there never was and may never be an AID vaccine.
Fast forward 30 years and he is doing the same thing with COVID, downplaying treatments and pushing for an as yet non-existent vaccine. Meanwhile, thousands who could have been potentially saved by simple and cheap treatments like HCQ instead died.
