California Apocalypto
NRO ^ | 25 Aug 2020 | Victor Davis Hanson

Power outages, fires, water shortages, rising taxes, crumbling and congested highways, dismal schools, lawlessness …

It is now August in California.

So we can expect the following from our postmodern state government. There are the now-normal raging wildfires in the coastal and Sierra foothills. And they will be greeted as if they are not characteristic threats of 500 years of settled history, but leveraged as proof of global warming as well as the state’s abject inability to put them out.

When the inept state can’t extinguish them as it has in the past, it suggests that it’s more “natural” to let them burn. Jerry Brown’s team told us that the drought’s toll — millions of dead trees and tens of millions of acres of parched grass and calcified shrubs on hillsides — provided a natural source of food and shelter for bugs and birds and thus need not be grazed or thinned or harvested. And so the wages of drought could be in a sense good for an “ecosystem” that otherwise proved to be green napalm for the people of foothill communities.

We can expect power outages, because we don’t believe in releasing clean heat to make energy. Note that we do not mind people heating up in their 108-degree apartments without power. The planet is always more important than the non-privileged people who inhabit it.

A great state brought to ruin by its evil politicians. So sad

More and more people driving around. Some businesses going under, but others thriving.

Maybe its all based on ill-gotten gains from rebate checks, but the part of California I'm in is still hanging on.

Also lots of scofflawing to undermine Gavin Nuisance's decrees.

“A great state brought to ruin by its evil politicians.”

A whole bunch of Californians voted for those politicians.

You can’t blame normal citizens for fraudulent votes.

My husband and I are leaving within six months or so. By every metric that is important to us - law enforcement on crime and vagrancy, affordability, low taxes, responsive government, basically civilized citizenry - is in the toilet and there are ZERO signs that will go anywhere but down.

I wonder if the leftists who are joyful that conservatives are leaving realize that their beloved leaders will come after THEM to make up the difference of all those lost tax dollars.

Fraudulent votes perpetrated by the deep state.

For how long now?

That’s so silly to believe every election is fraudulent - perhaps a few, but you can’t deny that most of the people in California are liberal and have voted for those politicians that have hastened its demise.

What pisses me off is that other states complain about Californians going elsewhere, without realizing that California was Republican and got invaded by liberals from other states who then flipped it to Democrat. Ask the average resident where they were born, and it was not California. Fewer and fewer of us native-born conservative Californians. We were invaded in the 1960s by easterners like Nancy Pelosi and southerners like Willie Brown. Those invaders voted for Democrats.

Yeah, the dead ones, the illegal border crossing ones, and the Dem ones who vote multiple times. Most had their ballots collected from their residences or magically filled out for them without any act on their part. They all definitely voted Dem.

There are a lot of Republicans and conservative leaning moderates still left in the Golden State.

Sounds like the end of a certain book whose name starts with ‘Atlas’ and ends with ‘Shrugged.’

Really? We know top government officials and top law enforcement officials in the U.S. have/are attempting to undermine, compromise and over-throw a legitimately elected president of the United States, but wide spread voter fraud is a stretch or a silly concept?

True. But now those evil politicians have rigged the ballot just like in the old communist Soviet Union. There are usually still two nenes but they are often just two communistic left wing DemocRATs with zero opportunity for moderate or conservative voters

Agree. I live in Conservative foothills here but know many highly educated Libs ... attorneys, doctors, federal and state workers. retired business owners from the Bay Area

There is no talking to them. They don’t get it and I believe never will no matter what.

Their lack of common sense is stunning and only outdone by their arrogance.

Some used to be friends.

We need a state electoral college so we aren’t run rough shod by the lefty cities.
