Afire at an Omaha funeral home did not disturb two bodies inside or any cremated remains, the owner said Sunday.
Firefighters were dispatched to the Good Shepherd Funeral Home near 24th and J Streets just after midnight Saturday, an Omaha Fire Department spokesman said. The blaze was under control at 1:04 a.m., and no injuries were reported.
Three residents of an apartment above the funeral home were displaced. Michael Hoy, the mortuary's owner, said he's thankful that there were no injuries and that no remains were affected.

The symbolism of fire not touching or “harming” cremains is, imo ... not a good one
It could mess up the storage urns or boxes, disturbing and possibly merging the ashes in the debris of a surrounding fire.

I don't know anything about you. Maybe you are single, maybe you are married. However, there are many women out there who would think you are smoking hot. Probably some guys too. LOL
Police received a call from someone that they were burning bodies at a business near his house. Police investigated. Turned out the business was an industrial pottery maker, one with a very large kiln. They were indeed cremating bodies. It seems that the owner of a nearby mortuary, one that did cremations, had a failure of their ovens and asked this pottery business for help. All was on the up and up, but the fumes escaped from the kiln, that were captured at the crematorium.
The police then went to the man who called: How did you know that was what it was? The elderly man rolled up his sleeves revealing the numbers tattooed on his arm: 'Once you know, you never forget"
