Contracts can and do get renegotiated.
Plus contracts have time spans. They run out and new contracts get signed.
The NBA draftees in coming years are not going to be making a whole lot of money if there are no live fans, far fewer live fans(social distancing you know) and rock bottom TV ratings. Where is the money going to come from?
Yes, contracts CAN be re-negotiated. But can also be enforced. What is the incentive for a player to re-negotiate? They showed up and play.
No one ever watched that. If it was ever claimed to have any ratings it was a lie.
Forcing viewers to accept BLM by writing it all over the courts? I was in a restaurant last week that had the nba on. I told the waitress I wouldn’t stay unless they turned the channel. I had to leave. FU! This BLM BS should have a ripple effect on business. I will not accept it or pretend it’s ok.
You’d think more people home from Covid would mean more viewers.

They can insist on enforcing their contracts all they want. It won't do them a whole lot of good if the company goes bankrupt from no/very low live audiences and very low TV ratings. Their money streams are going to dry up. No business survives long running at a loss for years.
That’s a good point (they have a “captive audience” of people at home), but I see less and less people at home at this point (in northeastern NJ). Employers understand they either produce or die, and once your competitors are back to work you have to be as well.
On top of that, the lockdown drove many people to alternatives to regular and cable TV (a trend that started long before the Red Chinese flu).
I don’t know this - but I would assume nba franchises are receiving
stimulus funding - they are nowhere near going broke.
Some sports teams were shredded for taking that funding, but that just covers payrolls for a time. The impact will be felt when these franchises have to negotiate new TV contracts (when the current ones expire); they have no bargaining power now. How many looter crowbars or bongs can you sell in commercials during these games?

I tried once to watch part of a game that I turned on by accident, couldn't do it.
I have spent considerable time watching girls college playoff games, but that is because they haven't been totally brainwashed, but now with all of the demonRAT causes that are sweeping the country, I'm not sure.

Self-inflicted & well-deserved. It amazes me how all these well-paid “privileged” (in comparison to most in the country) insist on cutting off their noses to spite their faces. The race-baiters, media, & the Left have them convinced that they are a majority opinion ... the ratings sinking like the Titanic are showing them otherwise. Evidently, they’re too stuck on stupid to come to terms with that reality. All of the major sports appear infected ... or maybe it should be ‘infested’ since the Left are vermin. The TV has not been on (for anything) in 2-3 months in our house and that is not going to change.
They should finish the job and rename themselves the CPBA Chinese Peoples Basketball Association. Then move all the franchises to Chinese cities.
By the way, the Chinese are extremely racist. Blacks are not liked at all and might find it hard to get accommodations and reservations. But, hey. They’ll still get paid.
