Sheldon Adelson makes nice with Trump
Axios ^ | August 16, 2020 | Jonathan Swan

Despite a tense recent phone call with President Trump — first reported by the New York Times — the most important mega-donor in the Republican Party, Sheldon Adelson, has signaled he is poised to spend big to support the president.

Behind the scenes: Last Monday morning a group of top Republican Party donors gathered at the Four Seasons resort in Jackson Hole, Wyo., for a Trump campaign fundraiser.

The donors gathered in a hotel ballroom, set up like a Silicon Valley retreat, with a yogurt parfait station, according to sources in the room.

A select few of the party's biggest donors sent aides in their place — and this was the case with casino billionaire Adelson and his wife, Miriam. Adelson's top adviser Andy Abboud entered the room late, toward the end of the meeting. He raised his hand for a question, and they gave him the mic, according to two sources who were there.

"I just want to say that I just spoke to the Adelsons," Abboud announced to the room. "They are 110% behind the president. And that's going to become apparent shortly."

Why it matters: The Adelsons have the biggest checkbooks in Republican politics. They spend tens of millions of dollars each cycle, and the recent New York Times story — which reported that in a recent phone call Trump "upbraided [Adelson] for not donating more to support his reelection" — made some Republican officials nervous that Trump had alienated the party's most important donor.

Good. Can't have too much funding for Trump. Better yet, fund the Republicans who are running for the House and Senate.

I know there are more than a couple out thar who don't like Axios. However, Trump has granted more than a couple interviews with the author of this article.

I don’t know who this person is, but he needs to get on board with the incumbent president.

We love our President, Mr. Whoever you are.

Sorry, but if you don’t know who Sheldon Adelson is and his importance to the Party, I don’t see how you can comment like that.

Ah, yes! The filthy rich Republicans awash in their hedonistic "yogurt parfait station"!

Here in the Southeast, we have a chain of gas station/convenience stores named "Sheetz" which all have excellent "yogurt parfait stations".

Sheetz M.T.Go! Blackberry and Yogurt Parfait

If the article had been about Democrat donors, it would have read, "Democrat supporters enjoy healthy, nutritious, sustainable snacks while planning how to best serve mankind!"

"Peace be upon them!"

...

I think it’s likely that the NYTimes was putting out Fake News.

Israel may be Shelly’s biggest “cause”—and I don’t see how he can possibly not be happy with Trump on that count.

Ha ha. I was thinking the same thing as I read the article. No caviar. No oysters on the half shell. Not even shrimp cocktails? A yogurt parfait station? Yogurt? Is that supposed be be swank?

Despite a tense recent phone call with President Trump

Not sure why anybody put too much stock in this being some big deal in the first place, I've dealt with high powered lawyers and corporate executives in my day, they can go into meeting and scream at each other, call each the worst names imaginable, then two hours later they are out on the golf course back slapping like best friends.
