If the feds didn't purchase the land from the states per Article I, Section 8, Clause 17, the only constitutional provision federal lands within the states, then the land should be RETURNED to the states possibly with reparations if they were unconstitutionally and, thus, illegally obtained.

Quit defending the mostly unconstitutional totalitarian feds who are the greatest threat to our Free Constitutional Republic.

Agreed. The vast majority of federal lands was never owned by the states to begin with. And yes, it should be sold to the states.

Take the Louisiana Purchase. It was a purchase by the federal government, thus the lands were owned by the federal government.

The land was then subdivided into territories and settlers were encouraged to move in. The homestead acts made legal the transfer of the land to many citizens. Local governments were formed and finally the governments requested statehood. Any lands not outright sold, given or homesteaded was retained by the feds.

“Giving it back to the states” represents a gross misunderstanding of history.
