It turns out that Obama hasn’t been President for quite some time now

Less than four years.
And his dictatorial unconstitutional diktats like DACA are still being litigated in court.

As the reporterette exasperated “$400 will be hardship when they were receiving $600”

That will be the headline: "Trump Cuts Unemployment Benefits by a Third - Women and Minorities Hardest Hit." :)

Geeze you guys

He’s goading them.

They don’t have a choice but to accept his offer

Group other than congress sues and stops Trump, Dems still have to support his position.

“Dear, American People. Yeah, Yeah, I luv yuh. I’ve done everything I can to help you but, the Dems don’t seem as interested in your welfare as I am.

What a shame.

Just a shame”

Good grief. Just last week, everyone here was boo hooing the 600 dollars a week enhanced unemployment. Now we’re praising it??? Amazing! I’d rather everyone get the 1200 myself.

Has your State stopped paying unemployment insurance? Remember when it wasn’t a Federal responsibility

Unfortunately the state does not pay enough for one to survive very long. In past times we would rely on family, friends, and church to help us by. They're all hurting too. I understand your point of view but the hole we dig with the bailouts may be easier to crawl back out of than the alternative.

I’ve been unemployed twice in my life, and I’ve had to fire a number of people too. The latter is just as hard, if not harder.

Fortunately, I've never been without a job.

Giving people money, that they might end up having to give back is not compassionate. Of course, FEMA does it all the time.

So like I said. Let them eat cake!

“ What he’s doing is completely illegal and will be knocked down in the courts. In the meantime, people and companies will be jerked around.”

I disagree. Now prove me wrong by substantiating your statement with the relevant laws or parts of the Constitution that make these particular actions beyond the scope of an EO.

I’ll wait.

Anytime any president uses executive orders I cringe. This is not the way things were meant to be.

Unfortunately, the dems used this crisis to attempt to force their marxist agenda upon us via their poisonous HEROES act.

They seemed to believe they had President Trump trapped into allowing them to sneak by their Republic killing demands by tying it to the aid needed by Americans in the middle of this crisis.

Fortunately for us, the administration used tactics that the dems didn't seem to expect and got the aid out to those in need without sacrificing our freedoms as the dems are demanding.

I applaud him and hope those people in need will be able to carry on until we can finally get past this crisis.

How about this part: "Financially, Congress has the power to tax, borrow, pay debt and provide for the common defense and the general welfare;"

The President is supposed to faithfully execute the laws. Refusing to collect a mandated tax is not faithful execution.

Look.. I get it. The law today is so twisted and complicated, and Court system so corrupted, it's damned near impossible to KNOW how they will rule. We'll see. They've certainly shocked me in the past. I still haven't gotten over how an "anonymous tip" meets the standards for getting a warrant set out in the 4th Amendment.

On a more political front: I think it's pretty risky having FEMA disburse these funds. There's a pretty good chance we're going to have a major hurricane hit the US somewhere this fall. When that happens, no matter how much aid Trump sends, the MSM will do nothing but trumpet how "FEMA is hamstrung by all the fund Trump illegally gave away in his EO's".

It'll be bunk. But, they'll say it anyway. And, it will hurt.

Hey all you Pearl clutchers and constitutional experts. We have only two friggin months before the election

That's it right here. No time for green eye shades and sharp pencils, Americans need help and DJT just cut thru the BS to help them.

I've been defending Trump almost daily for more than 4 years now. I'm a huge fan. This is a big gamble, that might pay off. We'll see. I already thought he was on the way to being re-elected, rather easily.

The president can provide unemployment insurance under a FEMA Program. It’s perfectly legal.

See post 217 - Disaster Unemployment Insurance is perfectly legal. Someone may sue on part of the regulation, but there would be a legal fight on the nuance of the language in the regulation and whether someone had standing to begin with.

I believe states need to apply for the assistance, so pressure will certainly be on RAT governors to ‘get on board’.

I think the legality of this is two-fold:

1. The EO doesn’t end the payroll tax. It DEFERS it. If Congress doesn’t cut the payroll tax through legislation — and they will be under tremendous pressure to do so — these taxes WILL still be owed.

2. The money for the unemployment payments isn’t a “new” Federal appropriation. It was already appropriated by Congress but hasn’t been spent yet. I’m pretty sure this was previously the legal basis for the President to re-allocate defense appropriations bills to construct the border wall.

I think that day has passed. Reading comments..... as long as it is “our guy” its ok. I am very uncomfortable with all of this spending. Trillions. Both sides are buying votes.

Danger.

Not much choice with the pandemic. The economy will adjust but it will take time. People aren't traveling, going to restaurants, etc. And they won't. An entire sector disappeared along with most of the jobs.

Economic growth is the only correct way to pay back the debt. We'll get that back and we'll prosper as long as the economy is allowed to change.
